Lame in 2007: 80s Remakes (#21)
Lame because: How many 1980s TV cartoons do you really want to see on the big screen, even if you loved them as a child? Many people loved the Transformers adaptation this summer (although Scott and James were not among the fans), but will audiences be quite so hyped about a movie based on He-Man or Thundercats? This year's remake of horror classic Halloween tanked, but that's not stopping Rob Zombie from wanting to remake C.H.U.D. next. Teen movies appear to be the next step in 80s remakes, with rumors abounding about a Grease remake with Jessica Simpson and a Footloose remake with Zac Efron. How to turn it around: Find another decade of films to focus remake efforts -- but wait, no more from the 1930s. Or the 1970s. Maybe it would be best just to find another source of material for Hollywood crowd-pleasers.

Wait a minute, the Halloween remake didn't tank. It doubled its budget just in the opening weekend, quadrupled it later and hasn't even come out on DVD yet, which is where, say, HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES made all the money that made it a hit. Also, Rob Zombie doesn't want to remake C.H.U.D., that was just a rumor and I think you guys even debunked it already. Also, you had "re-imaginings" on your "hot" list and if I remember correctly you even mentioned HALLOWEEN as an example. So this is not making a lot of sense.

I don't think this one's entirely fair either, because a lot of the problems you point out are not entirely the fault of the source material. I don't really like Zombie's direction, regardless if its an original story or a remake. Transformers, on the other hand, was actually pretty successful and not as awful as many expected. As for He-man and Thundercats, they don't exist YET, so it's a little early to talk about how much they suck. So yeah, I don't see how the decade is at fault, as your "how to turn it around" suggests.

I have to back up Pepsico on this one. Halloween did not even come close to tanking. It was very successful financially and actually pleased its audience. Although this film may have bothered the hard core fans of the original it was generally regarded as much better than anyone had the right to expect. A good strong horror movie in a sea of lame efforts.

This is a page entitled "80s Remakes". Am I the only one that knows Halloween was a 70s movie? Look it up, released in 1978. I like the original better, but Zombie's movie was okay in its own right.

Also halloween was made in 1978. So not quite an '80's movie, but nice try on the zombie bashing.

There's already a Grease remake, which was of course proven shite - they call it... High School Musical.
And can someone PLEASE smack that smug f-ing grin from Efron's smug f-ing face?

Lame? I think not. One word should to it....
Nostalgia.
Plus, some of these 80's "remakes" were never movies to begin with. Stop hating Cinematical, its not like they are remaking the Godfather or Citizen Kane.
