Could We Maybe Get a 'Roger Rabbit' Sequel? Someday?
Filed under: Comedy, Disney, Family Films, Remakes and Sequels
It seems a safe bet that any sort of sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit would be a pretty big hit, but back when the filmmakers were originally thinking about the idea, the concepts just seemed too expensive (and difficult) to tackle. But now with today's CGI magic, it wouldn't be all that tough to get a Roger Rabbit sequel off the ground ... provided you have a solid screenplay, of course.Don't get too excited just yet, toon-fans, because the sequel certainly isn't about to get rolling anytime soon. But the MTV Movies Blog did just talk to producer Frank Marshall about the possibility of Roger's return, and the guy certainly didn't seem averse to it: "For the first time ever, Marshall also revealed details of the plot of "Roger Rabbit 2," and if you thought Toontown was a trip, you should have seen where they were sending Roger next. "New York!" Marshall enthused of the setting for the second film." (Click here for the full piece.)
The conversation closed with Marshall playfully promising to get in touch with the Pixar boys regarding Roger Rabbit 2, but hey, stranger things have happened.

A CGI Roger Rabbit 2 is a horrible horrible idea. Only if Zemeckis helmed it would I consider it a possibly good thing, because Robert knows that the key to Roger is the integrity of the animation itself. Roger Rabbit is about the golden age of animation and you can't use CGI to represent that. You have to use traditional 2D animation and Zemeckis has said before he would never do another Roger Rabbit film because the first one was so insanely difficult.
Besides, it's not like the talk of a sequel is anything new. This has been in development hell for, literally, years and years. Check out this absolutely fantastic story on the history of the Roger Rabbit cinema saga!

With it being Disney they are knowing for putting out second rate straight-to-DVD sequels. I can't see Roger Rabbit 2 being anything more then that. If that is the case then no thanks. Those straight to DVD sequels are rushed and are a former shadow of thier original. Rember "Aladdian 2"? "The Lion King 2"? Even the sequels to thier classic animation features like "Cinderella" never live up to the originals because they know that with straight to DVD you make more money, but with less the effort from the production crew.

Well it doesn't have to be. I thought it could be like the new CGI characters taking over toon town from the classic 2d ones. But then again the original did take place in like the 50s...but it's roger rabbit so who cares?!

Whats-his-name put a stop to them. And Bambi II was actually not that bad.

I always thought that the biggest setback to making a new Roger Rabbit was the cost in re-obtaining the licenses for all of the cartoon characters...

Nuts to PIXAR. They need to get the first film's animation director, Richard Williams back.
