Is Gemma Arterton the Next Bond Girl?
Filed under: Action, Casting, RumorMonger, James Bond, Remakes and Sequels, Daniel Craig
Gemma Arterton just spent some time Capturing Mary on television. She's about to follow that up by wreaking havoc at St. Trinian's, and from there -- she's spent some time in Guy Ritchie's RocknRolla, before being Lost in Austen as Elizabeth Bennet, and then co-starring in 3 and Out. Now, if the rumors are true, she's about to top all of that off with a stint as the next 007 lady. According to Marie Claire UK, Arterton will star opposite Daniel Craig as the new Bond girl in Bond 22. They say this will be only her second movie, but I guess they didn't check out IMDb. According to the website, an insider at Eon Productions said that she beat 1,500 hopefuls for the part because "She has the modern look."If this is true, she's a force to be reckoned with. Fresh out of drama school, at the age of 21, she won the role of lead girl in St. Trinian's, even though Sienna Miller's name was thrown around for the part. Topping that with a sexy performance of Love's Labour's Lost on the stage, and she's already an old pro at the sexy ways. So beating out all the other possible Bond girls is a hell of an achievement, if Marie Claire's insider has the story right.
But can she hold her own against Craig and the Bond girls of films' past? Check out the gallery below and weigh in.

Hmmm. I don't know. I liked tha last gal rumoured, the Mexican actress. There is usually more than one Bond girl in a film, so perhaps they'll have both. I think, however, Gemma looks too young.

I will never watch any bond film with daniel craig
when come their sences and replace him with Clive Owen then I will watch again. Besides Clive has a better body of work than craig at a higher calliber of performance!

You have got to be kidding me, right? Are they trying to ruin this franchise? Oh wait, they already did that with that last pathetic movie.

I think she is quite pretty. Her hair-cut does not do her justice, nor does her make-up, but she reminds me a little of Audry Hepburn in a few of her pictures. I do not know if she is right for a James Bond picture.
I kind of imagine James Bond girls as tan, very fit, older... more of a fighter-chick/sex-symbol type. More dangerous. Gemma Arterton seems to have a softer, classic, spritely beauty, which is more suited to Lost in Austen or a Shakespeare production. But then you never know, she seems like she might be a good actress, and
a good actress can pull off anything. Actresses are very good at transforming. Sarah Bernhardt acted without a leg.
I would like to see the people that say she is ugly. People are so mean and hypercritical of everyone but themselves now-a-days. Maybe, if people were not so cruel, shallow, and judgemental, we would have more Sarah Bernhardts performing for us.

Hey Joe DiMeco,
While I agree that Clive Owen would've made a great Bond, and while I would argue that looks are subjective (some like Owen, others prefer Craig), I doubt very much that Owen's physique is anywhere near as hard and cut as Craig's. Besides, after watching "Casino Royale" I don't think Owen is necessarily a better actor than Craig.
And Alka, do you honestly think Jennifer Aniston would be a better Bond girl? Why? She is as exciting as a piece of plain melba toast. She has no allure, no mystique, no sense or aura of sophistication or continentalism (which all Bond women should have). Regardless of her looks, which again are subjective, she just doesn't have the necessary sex appeal or allure that a Bond girl needs to have. Maybe this Gemma Arterton isn't the best choice, but I'm pretty sure that she, or just about anyone else, would be a better choice than Jennifer Aniston.

How about leave well enough alone? The original Bond movies are enough. NO MORE!! The more recent films are progressively worse, and enough is enough. Develop a new character, and a new series of characters and stop trying to squeeze the last bit of life out of Bond.

When did James Bond start going after scarecrows?
Someone give this broad a sandwich.
IF Bond were to bed her like so many others she would break like a wooden match stick.
By the way: Double O seven is wrong. "O" is a letter, it should be Double zero seven.

Who?
Why not get a well known actress?
Paris is out there saving drunk Elephants, but she's free otherwise.
I'm sure she will go down in order to save the Queen.
