Monday Morning Poll: Best 2008 Comic Book Film?
Filed under: Fandom, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels, Monday Morning Poll
With the official trailer for The Dark Knight finally arriving online, now seems like a good time to revisit the topic and debate which 2008 comic book flick will turn out the best. The big four, of course, are all slightly different from one another -- one is a sequel from a reboot (The Dark Knight), one is a straight-up reboot from scratch (The Incredible Hulk), one is a straight-up sequel (Hellboy II: The Golden Army) and one marks the first time we're seeing this hero on the big screen (Iron Man). Additionally, we have films on the lower tier, like The Punisher: War Zone, which is sort of a reboot reboot sequel ... we think. Then there's Wanted, which heads into graphic novel territory, but we'll include it here because there's tons of hype behind it.
The big three moneymakers, in my opinion, are The Dark Knight, The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man. Out of the entire lot, we've seen trailers for Knight, Iron Man and Wanted. Punisher released a photo and Hellboy II has released a bunch of photos, concept art and I wouldn't be surprised if we get a trailer real soon. On the other hand, The Incredible Hulk has been real silent on the marketing front. Rumor has it a trailer for Hulk will debut during the Superbowl, but you'd think we'd at least get a few photos by now. We've seen set photos, but those have shown us nothing really. Chances are The Dark Knight will make the most money, but will it be the best film? Will any of these films be good? Will they all be great? Will 2008 make up for the cruddy 2007? Tell us which comic book film you think has the best shot at ruling 2008 ...

I do think Batman will be the big moneymaker ibut i am really hoping hellboy will be the surprise. the website shows us some really cool concepts and set designs so i am hoping that the first trailer blows me away. I wasn't really all that happy with the batman trailer in front of I am legend (sure it was cool but did it show me something i wasn't expecting from it? no.) i am excited to see a little more from iron man maybe some fight scenes with iron man. over all i think next summer will be better than this summer, but they have some pretty big shoes to fill.
Good-(potter, POTC3, Transformers, die hard4) Bad- (spiderman 3, Shrek 3, Fantastic Four2, rush hour 3)
I will tell you one thing though I watched them all...

This can't be a serious question. TDK, easy.

Anyone who saw the IMAX preview of TDK will tell you that it's likely to be the best comic book movie of all time, let alone 2008.

I'm sure there will be a notable difference between what turns out to be "the best" comic book film and what made the most money.
Here's the order in which I predict these films will fall into place from best to worst.
1. The Dark Knight: Duh. Nolan is awesome. I hope he didn't cut my scenes as an extra.
2. Iron Man: A great cast and director but we still haven't heard to much about a threat or bad guy. Hmmmm....still, it looks like fun!
3. Hellboy II: The Golden Army: Can del Toro do know wrong? We'll see but I'm there cuz I loves me some Ron Perlman.
4. The Punisher: War Zone: it's in NY and this guy actually looks like Frank Castle. Yay!
5. Wanted: It seems like this story has changed considerably from the comic but it looks like dirty fun.
6. Incredible Hulk: Oh boy. I dunno. As you mentioned nothing has been shown. Thetre's no more Connelly to look at but I do like Norton. So, we'll see.

I've read Wanted in comic book form and it was shit. Not "the shit" just downright absolute crap. So unless the movie improves on the thing greatly it's going to suck a lot. It might pull in money but that still won't stop it from sucking.
I'm most excited about Ironman. I saw the trailer for Batman and I wasn't really excited the way I was when I saw the trailer for Batman Begins. Truthfully even though Begins was an incredible movie the only incarnation of Batman to really get the character right (he's often refered to as the detective not Mr Gadget.) was the Bruce Timm cartoon show from the early 90's.

Here's a question, whatever happened to "Sin City 2"? Is that set to come out in 2008? Shortly after SC it seemed like SC 2 was already in pre-production. Its been quite some time since I've heard anything in months about its status though.

Watchmen isn't scheduled for release until March 2009.
And it's The Dark Knight, no question. As for the others, I'll just be happy with a version of The Punisher that doesn't totally suck.
