Is 'Smallville's Kristin Kreuk Chun-Li?

Well if nothing else, at least the legendary Chun Li is not going to be played by Jessica Biel. ComingSoon.net is reporting that Smallville's Kristin Kreuk has signed to star in the new Street Fighter film. There has been no official word on which role she is going to play, but the smart money is on her taking over where Ming-Na Wen left off in the 1994 incarnation of Capcom's classic game. News of the film first surfaced back in October, 2006 and back in July there had been an early review of Justin Marks' script. Early word had the plot centering on Li as she searches for those responsible for her father's murder all while taking down the Shadoloo organization. There has been very little mention of any of the other Street Fighter characters making an appearance, so I would expect that not much has changed in Marks original ideas of the film's direction. The flick is expected to start production this spring and will film on location in Thailand in March 2008.This is Kreuk's third feature film, having already starred in Partition with Neve Campbell and a slightly less dignified role in the teen comedy, Eurotrip. Andrzej Bartkowiak has already signed to direct. For those of you out there worried that Street Fighter will degenerate into another cheese-fest, I can't say I blame you. Of course the worse news is that Bartkowiak's resume highlights include Cradle 2 the Grave and Romeo Must Die, so I can't be the only one thinking that this film might be destined for direct to DVD obscurity.

I still don’t know why they would make a remake of a movie about a video game that was good about 20 years ago. Ok so now we have movies made from classic games such as...
Super Mario Bros. (1993)
Double Dragon (1994)
Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture (1994)
Street Fighter (1994)
Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie (1994)
Mortal Kombat (1995)
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997)
Wing Commander (1999)
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001)
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)
Resident Evil (2002)
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003)
House of the Dead (2003)
Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)
Alien vs. Predator (2004)
Final Fantasy VII Advent Children (2005)
Alone in the Dark (2005)
Doom (2005)
BloodRayne (2005)
DOA: Dead or Alive (2006)
Silent Hill (2006)
Hitman (2007)
Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)
Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007)
Now I want to know what marketing genius is looking at the track record of video game movies and saying “you know lets make another one”.... especially fighting games... most of these fighting games don’t have a great storyline and the character depth is awful.
Video games are fun for one reason because you play them... not because you watch them.... I sat through about 50 hours of guitar hero in the last week while visiting family that doesn't mean it would be a good idea to bring out a guitar hero movie... Tron was good but it was a movie based around a video game same with the wizard classic Fred savage... there is a better history of movies and TV shows based about video games than based on video games... lets do more of those...

They don't waste anymore time these days to re-do a failing movie franchise. Something doesn't work the first time, hey, redo it. They have done that with "The Hulk", they did that with "The Batman" franchise and now "Street Fighter". This is just another example of Hollywood beating a dead horse. Hollywood is lazy, nothing ever just ends. How does any series get a satisfying ending if they just keep bringing it back, and do all these formerly failed projects deserve to be re-done? A new take on "Batman", "The Hulk"? Alright, but "Street Fighter"? Was anybody asking for another one of these?
