They've been saying for a few days that heavy weather was probably coming in, and now it's arrived -- not a swirling, howling, John Carpenter's The Thing whiteout, but the sort of strong-gentle snowfall that makes you hum Vince Guaraldi music and shows no sign of letting up. It's making things feel quiet -- and after this weekend, the traditionally over-busy first weekend of Sundance, that quiet is welcome. And quiet is relative; I just saw a number of press people and buyers get shut out of the 8:30 AM screening of Birds of America due to its having filled up over capacity. A fellow writer gathered her things and shrugged at the facts of the matter: "It's Sundance." Today, at Sundance, it looks like you better give yourself more time to get wherever you're going -- and you still need to show up early.
