'Star Trek' Teaser Now Online!

When I went to see Cloverfield over the weekend, the crowd was pretty lively through the trailers. It was not in an excited fan way, but in that last-minute rush of chatter during something that holds little interest. That being said, conversations wrapped up pretty quickly when the Star Trek teaser popped up. At first, when the Bad Robot emblem appeared, people kept talking. I waited. It got a bit more silent as J.J. Abrams' name hit the screen with John F. Kennedy's words bellowing from the speakers. But then, a split second later when the Enterprise came into view, the crowd went wild. While theater-goers got to see the first teaser in all its glory on Friday, it didn't make it's official appearance on the net until today. Now you can head over to Yahoo and check it out for yourself. Personally, I dug the connections the teaser made between the creation of the ship and America's first forays into space. It made the whole thing seem more real. But maybe all you need is the sight of the Enterprise, and Leonard Nimoy's gravelly voice.
For me, unfortunately, it was a bit ruined when the credits showed up -- I just can't take the idea of John Cho as Sulu seriously. But whatever happens, Star Trek is on its way. What do you think?

What ruined it for me was Nimoy saying Shatner's line

I think this might be the first Star Trek that I could actually convince my wife to watch with me. She loves Alias and Lost. but is completely and utterly biased against all previous Star Trek shows and movies for no real reason. If this movie is non-canon but accessible and more entertaining than the average action movie, I will still be happy.

Cinemark ripped me off! No 'Star Trek' teaser in front of 'Cloverfield' (digital) when I saw it on Friday night.

Ummmm... Eric H?
You do know that Nimoy also spoke the lines in a voiceover at the end of Trek 2, argueably the best picture in the franchise?

Does anyone else feel a bit upset that the Enterprise is apparently being built on Earth?? Im a bit of a Trekkie I'll admit, but I was Very excited at the prospect of a Wider reaching Trek movie (possibly a box office win for Paramount) but they have always constructed the ships in space, cause breaking atmosphere with something that size is REALLY hard =) Even on Enterprise the ship was built in an orbiting ship yard, I just think you can make a badass Trek movie without rewriting..."future history"

Dont you remember though, the enterprise was constructed at the san francisco ship yards? anyway, i thought the trailer really brings trek to a whole new level that makes it accessible to everyone, both fans and no fans alike.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it still an orbiting platform that, in proud Naval tradition, had the same name as an older terrestial building site?

..and I only say that because the NX-01 Enterprise was built in space so I assume that roughly 100 years later that they had'nt regressed technology-wise

God you guys need to get a life. Nobody cares if it was built in space or on land. Leonard Nimoys opening sounds very cool. I am hoping that JJ Abrams took a cue from movies 2,4,6 the only decent movies in the whole franchise. The rest were crap. The original series and The next Generation were the only decent TV shows. The rest were steaming piles of crap. Voyager was especially insulting. The only way that Star Trek will continue to survive is by making it more accesible to the general public. So let the rest of the world enjoy the movie and stop sniveling over techno b*llsh*t.
