There might be a strike and no fancy Oscar ceremony this year, but the show will go on, in one form or another. It is the 80th annual Academy Awards, after all. Eighty years. That's a long time for cinema, and a pretty big anniversary to boot. Is it just me or is it unusual to have two people nominated for a directing Oscar for the same film--that is, both the Coen brothers? It's appropriate, for sure, but I thought the Academy had rules against that.

I thought that, too, Luke G. I can't find any rule against it, though, in the Academy eligibility outlines. I think we just confuse it with the rule against a feature dramatic film showing credit for two directors. I think after this year, that should change. After all, docs get to have two directors.

Juno is the Little Miss Sunshine of this year...funny, very good movie, and yet at the same time way over-hyped and over praised. LMS was not one of the 5 best pictures last year, and Juno is not one of the 5 best pictures this year. (Note: there is a key difference between "favorite" picture and "best" picture. )

Somewhere along the line of being a movie buff I must have missed some thing - some statement made, some thing that changed the direction of motion pictures today.
Because to have " NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN", even considered for any award whatsoever is ludicrous. I have not seen a movie that insulted my movie intelligence more. I could go on but I know you need this space for others.
Just let me say, a worse movie I have not seen in a long time.

I concur with Froggie! Please! I hope they figure out a way for there to be a proper telecast just to see Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova perform! That's lame that "There Will Be Blood" was dissed in the Original Score category. That's one of the elements that made the movie!
Overall, I'm pleased with the nominees despite "Enchanted" getting THREE song noms....puh-leez! It's great to see Tommy Lee Jones nominated for his work in "In the Valley of Elah" and congrats to Holbrook and Dee for their categories! If Deakins dioesn't get the Oscar for cinematography there is something WRONG!
Well, hey at least "Norbit" was nominated!
