More TV Spots for '10,000 B.C.'
Filed under: Action, Thrillers, Warner Brothers, Movie Marketing, Trailers and Clips
You know, the more I see of Roland Emmerich's 10,000 B.C, the more confused I get. ComingSoon.net is now hosting six new TV spots for the prehistoric action flick, and if you are anything like me, you are going to spend half your time wondering whether this movie could be as bad as these commercials make it seem. Well, to be fair -- the shots of hunters battling saber tooth tigers and woolly mammoth bits are pretty awesome, but as soon as somebody speaks a line of dialog, it is game over. The film stars Steven Strait as D'Leh, a mammoth hunter who is on a mission to save his tribe when his girlfriend (played by Camilla Belle) is kidnapped by a warlord. After discovering a group of warriors long thought to be extinct, D'Leh leads them to take on the oppressive warlord. Meanwhile, the new TV spots throw in plenty of Braveheart-esque moments of storming the battlements and lots of shouting and chest beating.
After you watch the first couple of trailers you might be wondering why I'm assuming that 10,000 B.C is going to be so uproariously bad. I know that it might look good, but let's consider the evidence. For starters, it's written and directed by Roland Emmerich, the man behind such gems as Godzilla and The Day After Tomorrow -- not to mention that most of the so-called pre-historic extras are just way too 'modelized' to look even remotely authentic. Finally, I've been going to the movies long enough to know that when a film's release date is pushed back not once, but twice, that it is never a good sign. 10,000 BC will finally hit theaters on March 7th, 2008.

10,000 BC Racist Historical Crap
Director Roland Emmerich should be ashamed of himself.
When will we get it right and stop putting this racist crap on the movie screens? Any historian will tell you that Egypt ( its part of Africa not the middle East) and the Tigris/Euphrates Valley has well-developed civilizations, even 12,000 years ago. And yes African or descendants of Ham first settled both of those societies. That’s why the original settlers in Mesopotamia were called the black-headed people.
We have used the image of white people in furs, i.e. cavemen and women, as the image of early man so much that its hard to contemplate that African and Asian people were never cave people and yet their lineage is much older than Caucasians.
We have an ongoing series about caveman where they boast of giving man the wheel and fire as they none of these things happened before whites appeared. Bull
Our information about the history of man was put together during the early part of this century when white anthropologist were convinced that Africa and African people were insignificant. Even in this picture there does not appear to be any Black people other than faces in the crowd.
The movie says that this was the first hero and implies that this was the beginning of man’s rise to civilization. Then it leads to pyramids and still no Black or brown faces.
Caucasians had nothing to do with pyramids and nor were their any proof of any Caucasian presence in the early history of anywhere pyramids can be found.
I don’t care about the Saber tooth tigers but I am tired of this racist twisting of history that refuses to acknowledge that Europe was actually the last continent to get civilization in 50 BC when Julius Caesar and the Romans invaded. Most of the Roman army was North Africans and blacker than I am because most of the original Roman territory was North Africa. Remember Hannibal a Black General of Carthage. The barbarians were originally the white tribes of Europe.
Every scientist will tell you that man was in Africa first and was Black. Yet we still use the old anthropology scales that show the rise of man from ape to Homo sapiens and the Homo sapiens is always a white man in furs. My kids are very confused when I show them the truth.
Why is all they can say? Why?

Ahem.
Dear Mr.Charlie,
If you want to watch a documentary on early african and egyptian civilization, I suggest the history channel. 10,000 bc is a movie. Its intent is to be entertaining, not to give you a solid two and half hours of knowledge aquired. All you should care about is looking at camilla belle's pretty face.
p.s. Jessica, Godzilla is a gem.

Wow. That was well said! I swear I thought that the race of the United States has to be a bunch of retarded fools. A British chap even commented on the U.S. as "an assylum for the clinically insane" as he put it. A bunch of ego-driven selfish, immature, fear maddened fools. And here in a blue moon you type up something this intelligent and a remarkable display of awareness. You are certainly educated, but alas that is the core of the problem you're complaining about. People's education is the Media and more importantly ASSUMPTIONS revolving around the fearful self. So that would be the answer right there to your "Why?". Lack of education and practice of assumptions that justify the ego. I am very much impressed by your writing and have forwarded to all my email addresses. Stay smart, fight on.

Amun, I mean A-men, Mr. Charlie 2012, man that name of yours has a lot of significance doesn't it? Anyway, from the trailers it looks like the "cavemen" look mighty swarthy or are they just dusty. Is that a rising consciousness, as we hit the gas going into 2012. Plus I recently discovered what B.C. should stand for to people of color. Before Caucasians (took over). It's humorous to me that the powers that be are still pushing that Elizabeth Taylor/ Yule Brenner type Egyptians, crap, there getting darker in every movie, but not quite Black. I guess one day they'll say Uncle, or Daddy, but if your waiting for Hollywood to tell the truth, you'll be waiting for hell to freeze over or a Black president, Hmmmm. You ever notice how ancient egyptian he looks? Put an egyptian headress on Barak he could pass for Ahknaten.
2012 here we.com, "the first will be last and the last will be first." I finally know what that means. Can you imagine the day when Caucasians are trying to pass for Black? I guess that'll be another movie called "10,000 A.C."
Peace and blessings
Within my words there are levels of understanding
