'The X-Files' Hits Newfoundland!

If you thought werewolves were scary, just you wait. According to Hollywood North Insider, the new X-Files movie, strangely called X-Files: Done One, will have Fox Mulder and Dana Scully heading up to northern Canada -- Newfoundland, to be exact. Their sources say that the extras for the film are being told that they are "Newfies," which is slang for people from Newfoundland, and that they need swimsuits for a scene being shot on a reservation in Mount Currie. Is this where werewolves come from? Considering the suit angle, I wonder -- are the beasties titillated by the appearance of an over-abundance of skin?Meanwhile, X-FilesNews.com has another source that has provided possible set pictures and call sheets. While the 'Newfies' will be prancing around in bathing suits, this call sheet shows lots of snow, and what's going one with some of the players involved -- like Billy Connelly's Father Joe, as well as Amanda Peet, and Xzibit. So far, this is looking to be one strange film. Whether that strangeness will translate into a good return of the story and characters -- that remains to be seen.
Personally, I just keep thinking about video games. Xzibit makes me think of Def Jam: Fight for New York, which makes me imagine that game X-Files style. I can see it now: Cancer Man stubs smokes out in opponent's eyes, Xzibit trains you, since he's an old pro by now, and Scully just beats down on everyone. Ah, I wish.

Geography notes. Newfoundland is not really Northern Canada. And, to the best of my knowledge Mount Currie is located in Southern BC near Pemberton.

BDP - Since it's above much of Canada, I consider it northern, although certainly not to Nunavut levels.
And yes, it's worth noting that Currie is in BC. I imagine it was just easier for them to stay in BC, rather than travel around Canada.

Newfie is NOT derogatory, and Newfoundland is NOT further north that most of Canada. Look it up people! (I mean the exact coordinates, as maps tend to distort things sometimes.

I don't consider the word "Newfie" derogatory. As a Newfie myself I can tell you most Newfoundlanders are immensely proud of their heritage and are all too happy to be called and to call themselves a "Newfie"

Monika - I would disagree that Newfoundland is north of most of Canada. All of its major population centres are located south of most of Western Canada in terms of latitude (including the cities of Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver).
I guess it depends on your point of view but from a Western Canadian perspective places located south of 49 degrees North latitude aren't part of Northern Canada.

Not to get in to a debate with Shelley about the word "newfie" I am not sure where in Newfoundland you are from or if you even live here but across the board in Newfoundland and Labrador the word "Newfie" has been remove as to away we refered to ourselves. I very seldom in society now hear this word being used and usually if it is the person is correct very quickly. Many Newfoundlanders who have not lived in NL for 20 or more years refered to themselves in this way but we who live and make our living here do not!

And so you should be proud to be called Newfie. I live in St. John's now but I'm from Central Newfoundland and everyone I know from both areas are proud to be called 'Newfie". Not sure where Jacqui is from but shes the first person I've heard refer to the word "Newfie" as derogatory.

Look up Newfie on wikipedia and then look up where the word comes from and see how you feel about it. Do some research!

Ok, so because Wikipedia says it it must be true? do you know what wikipedia is? It's a site that can be edited by anyone!! Who knows who posted the meaning of Newfie on that. If you look on dictionary.com however the term "Newfie" is described as..
1. a native or inhabitant of Newfoundland; Newfoundlander.
2. the Canadian province of Newfoundland.
–adjective
3. of or pertaining to Newfoundland.
or
1. resident of Newfoundland
2. Newfoundland (breed of dog)
Nothing in this definition mentions the word derogatory. It sounds to me like you're the one ashamed of the term, and maybe a little ashamed of your heritage. Again, I am very proud to be called Newfie and was also very proud to hear Alex Trebek use the term on Jeopardy recently in reference to the Newfoundland Dog.
