First Picture from Pixar's 'Up!'

I have an embarrassing confession to make: I have never watched a Pixar movie from start to finish. The closest I ever came was 1999's A Bug's Life, but I've been told often enough that Life was hardly the best of the bunch. Maybe I'll have better luck with their latest (following WALL-E), Up! The first image released seems to be concept art that is reportedly on display at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Luckily, some intrepid tourist snapped some pics and we can get our first look up above; you can also sneak a larger version of the photo here.
The film will mark Pixar's 10th animated feature film, and the story has been compared to a re-telling of Don Quixote. It centers on a man in his late 70's who joins up with a befuddled park ranger for some sort of adventure. The official description from Pixar describes our hero as the kind of guy who 'travels the globe, fights beasts and villains, and eats dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon' -- aww, I'm sold on the cuteness already. But then again, I guess I'm not the best judge when it comes to Pixar.
Pete Docter is already set to direct the "coming-of-old-age story", but so far there is no word on a cast. Docter is a long-time Pixar collaborator; he helped write the scripts for both Toy Story films, as well as directing Monsters, Inc. in 2001. But I wouldn't worry, judging by some of the big names that previous Pixar flicks have been able to get, I don't think Docter will have much trouble getting some solid voice talent. Up! is scheduled for release on June 12th, 2009.

if you've never seen 'The Incredibles' from start to finish you ought to be ashamed of yourself

Having never seen one of their fabulous movies all the way through, I think you probably aren't.
By the way, the next Pixar movie coming out is "Wall-E," coming on June 27, 2008, not "Up!" as your story mistakenly implies.

I'm not trying to be confrontational, but if you have any interest in animation at all, it is absolutely essential that you spend a day very soon watching Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille. Your knowledge of movies and your life will be much improved.

I can't believe you are writing for a movie blog and you haven't seen a Pixar movie all the way through. It's an embarrassment to this blog.

And no offense meant at all, but why are you writing this entry for this movie blog? Surely, someone else who appreciates the genre (and the studio) could spend more time on the actual story instead of qualifying it. Maybe this is an effort to reduce fanboy accusations? Bravo, then. Success.

Hey, while I enjoy Pixar films, I haven't found one with a story that hasn't been totally derivative or totally predictable in some form or fashion. I can understand why one might get "bored" of a Pixar film, especially if Pixar's art style does nothing for you. Just my two cents.

I would argue that while Pixar's stories feel familiar, that they are hardly derivitive. True, you know that there is going to be a happy ending, but how the movies get there is almost always unique.
Pixar movies are intended to be accesible to all audiences and that tends to lead to familiarity in storylines and characters. How many films can you watch a movie with your kids, your wife/husband and your parents, and everybody enjoys the movie?

Nah, they are derivative. Bugs Life is a pretty obvious retelling of the Seven Samurai, the Incredibles takes pretty heavily from the Fantastic Four, Cars obviously rips off those Cheveron Commercials :p.
Knowing where these stories come from doesn't detract at all from how well they're told and how nuanced and deep the performances are, voice overs and animation.

What do you watch then. i don't get it. Time and time again someone here "confesses" about never seeing certain films. I am baffled. What qualifies someone to write here?
A Pixar film gets pumped out like every year now and they're track record is probably the best in movie history. I'm sure they're armor has a few chinks, but no one comes close compared to other stuff that comes out (in the family PG/G animated film category). You never feel cheated or taken advantage of after watching one.

Yeah, A Bug's Life was weak, and Cars also, but you should give the other ones a try. I don't think I've ever even heard of someone not enjoying The Incredibles. I'm not saying it's Citizen Kane or anything, but it's fun and the animation is amazing.
I mean, I'm cynical about kid's movies to the point that I find myself being resistant to enjoying them, but seriously, Ratatouille was one of the best movies I saw last year. Excellent cast, unbelievable animation, and the ending made me cry.
The ad campaign for Wall-E is atrocious, though. It looks like Batteries Not Included.

I didn't like The Incredibles much. The story was far too predictable, and I'm not much of a Craig T. Nelson fan either. Something about his droll voice just about puts me to sleep. I'd much prefer the Toy Storys, Finding Nemo, and Bug's Life over The Incredibles or Monsters, Inc. I haven't seen Cars or Ratatouille, as neither one of them (or their trailers and ad campaigns at least) seemed to interest me at all.
I will be glad when Pixar 'grows up' and delivers a film more along in the Akira/Appleseed vein. I'd settle for a Heavy Metal rehash. Just something.... a little more grown up. Just because it's animated doesn't mean it has to be for kids.

The author of this post has never seen a Pixar movie from start to finish? An author for a blog dedicated to cinema? And the post is Pixar-related?

Isn't that like saying, "I'll be glad when Borat plays Hamlet" ?
And for the writer of the article, I have one word: research.
