I think I can speak for most fans of Marvel Comic's Punisher when I say that in light of just how crappy previous Punisher flicks have been in the past, then a 're-boot' was really the only sensible option (though I'm not sure it's a re-boot; perhaps a continuation or something along those lines). Latino Review is now hosting three new images from Punisher: War Zone straight from director Lexi Alexander's blog (which you can also view here, to the right, and after the jump). The last picture we got wasn't exactly the most illuminating when it comes to details, and, to be honest, I couldn't make out much here either. On the up side, at least star Ray Stevenson no longer looks like Steven Seagal's long lost brother.Taking over where Thomas Jane and Dolph Lundgren left off, Stevenson stars as Frank Castle (aka The Punisher); when his family is wiped out by the mob, he becomes a one man army pegging off criminals and mobsters everywhere. Joining Stevenson are Dominic West as Jigsaw (who fans might remember from the comics, albeit from a different storyline) and Wayne Knight (better known as Jerry's nemesis Newman) as Microchip.
Erik got the chance to talk with director Lexi Alexander about the need for a remake of the classic character. Alexander said, "I would say it's a complete different re-boot, just because neither one of the previous [films] were relevant. And with Castle, it's one story -- the mythology stays the same -- and I think I just have a very very different take on it. I was lucky to put it in the right environment, which was dark and cold". Judging by the photos on her blog, it looks like she succeeded in creating that 'environment'. Shooting for Punisher: War Zone wrapped back in December and is scheduled to hit theaters on September 12th, 2008. Check out two more pics after the jump ...

Thomas Jane is the Punisher. Why does everyone hate on the other Punisher movie? It was great. Ray still looks like Steven Seagal.

Personally, I can't see any other actor than Thomas Jane playing the role of Frank Castle. I hope this new guy is good. More than likely, I'll pass on this one and wait until it becomes a rental. Don't see anyone doing a better job in the role than Jane.

I think Thomas Jane did a good job, but the character wasn't what the comic book fans (such as myself) consider to be the core of The Punisher. Also, the world didn't have the feel right. You need dark alleys and dead mobsters. The movie needed more body count. If that movie had been a revenge movie not associated with The Punisher, I would have enjoyed it more.
It's kind of like what is happening with the Hulk movie (another reboot franchise). Hulk was an enjoyable movie that seemed to miss the core of the character. It was a take on a character by someone who is trying to do something different. That's applaudable, and sometimes it works well (see Batman), but when you are dealing with a rabid fanboy audience...
The same thing happens in the comics themselves. Let someone come in and reboot a character (Spider-Man single?), kill off a character that most people barely remember (R.I.P. Goliath), or really do anything different, and you will get a vocal response. When you also add in a general audience that have little interest in the product anyway, that small, vocal group can destroy the success of a product (Punisher), or drive up sales because of the buzz (Death of Captain America).

i agree with chris about people making it with a different take. the last punisher was good. it was nice and simple. had they made it all guns and explosions would it have been any different than a rambo movie? they made a solid flick that was the base for a new series of movies. they had a greenlight to make a sequel which they said was going to be more everything. now whatever the hell happened with that is a different story but its a shame. thomas jane did a great job this guy does look like steven seagal or more like carlos from i-spy who i just found out was gary cole from office space lol. but seriously thats who this guy looks at. and while i liked the punisher and owner the last one this one is definitely a rental actually ill wait until its on payperview so i can watch it for free

Thomas Janes Punisher was the only movie I have ever walked out on EVER. that was a horrible piece of trash and I want to punch every dumb fart who sticks up for this movie. I bet you nimrods are same a-holes that contribute to the success of movies like "Wild Hogs" "RV" and other horrendous movies that should be in the 99cent bin at Walmart. The only movie Thomas Jane was remotely badass in was that retarded shark movie (.....something blue). In case you wondering what part of the movie I walked out on was when frank Castles family was killed.. Thomas Jane could have taken a crap and his fecal matter could have responded better to the death. All Jane did was run around in circles like a retarded asian with a stigmatism. Acutally yea know what I think I stayed a bit longer than that, I actually left when he picked up his ravaged paint stained skull shirt from the wreckage. Cheese is less chessier that that!
Now if you are all wondering if I ever saw the whole movie the answer is yea. I watched the rest of it later on TV. I will say that the second half of the movie was slightly redeeming... some of the actions sequences were cool but there was like 2 maybe 3 cool things and then the movie ended. COMPLETE CRAP.
Riley Freeman "had they made it all guns and explosions would it have been any different than a rambo movie"
Riley you are an F'N idiot. Frank Castle aka the Punisher is basically rambo in New York. If you have read any of the recent Marvel Knights version of Punisher or any Punisher comics then you would know that. This concept works else the comic would have been canceled and scrapped years ago. I'm kinda siked to see that director Lexi Alexander's sees things this way and so far based from simple set pics Punisher War Zone might actually be worthy

That Thomas Jane Punisher was a decent revenge flick but a true Punisher film it wasn't. And come on....Travolta? Ugh! Puinisher belongs in NYC. Period. Not Tampa, Florida. That was a serious mistake. If you look at cover artist Timothy Bradstreet's work on the comic, you'll see that Alexander's take is much more loyal to the look and feel of the comic. You can say what you will about bringing a comic to film but some thing's ya just can't mess with.

Actually, Punisher's first apearance was in a Spider-Man comic. While Punisher had the INTENTION of killing Spidey(as well as a crappy haircut) over some frame up, it didn't become a killathon...uh, I'll let myself out now...
