New 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' Photo!
Filed under: Action, Fandom, Remakes and Sequels, Images

Here's something to chew on for the overnight: As part of that photo spread in Empire we told you about the other day, this is the second pic included in whatever feature they're shoveling out. It shows Cate Blanchett all pissed off with a sword up to Indy's neck. And Indy's all like, "You're a hot villain -- aren't you supposed to want to sleep with me?" And then these two guards in the background are all like, "What do you want from us?" So there you go. I hope we get a trailer for this soon; I'm seriously dying for a well put together preview with that classic score and a little classic Indy dialogue. I'm in the mood for one. Yes. That's something I'm really in the mood for. You?
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull arrives in theaters on May 22.

It looks to me like what we have here is some appalling photoshop butchery in a typically Empire magazine piece of crude editorialising.
The still of Blanchett is nothing to do with the still of Harrison Ford. She's been snipped over the still of Ford and lazily lined up to give the impression that her épée is against his throat.
There is no shadow on Ford's neck from the sword tip and the angle, intensity and colour temperature of the lighting on Ford & Blanchett's faces are an impossible mismatch for two people stood mere feet apart. Not to mention the vastly different qualities of grain & contrast.
Her eyeline is bafflingly askew for someone with a weapon to someone's throat. Because it isn't at all.
And finally, the scaling is ridiculous. Unless on course Kate Blanchett is 5'1" with a head the size of an apple.

You are right, that's exactly what I thought the moment I saw the photo. There is just no way this is real, I'm just pretty shocked that Erik Davis didn't see this crude fakery.

Folks, it's a scanned photo from a magazine. It's going to look a bit warped.

Erik, I love ya man, but that is some serious photo-shoppery. Not on your end, mind you, but an alteration nonetheless. Not above Empire to do so, either.
I'm not an Indiana Jones fanboy, but I can tell it. Surely there is one fanboy among us who can put this to rest.
If it were a Dark Knight photo I could speak more authoritatively.

I'd like to see people make fun of Ford's age and this movie AFTER they actually see the film. Some of us are optimistic and trust Speilberg won't give us a dog. Has anyone seen the film yet?
I thought the guard on the right looked like Cliff Curtis at first glance. I too don't think that Blanchett and Ford are in the same thing. I know it's a scan and everything but it just seems off.
There's supposed to be a long-awaited trailer attached to The Spiderwick Chronicles. Dunno bout the screenings but certainly for it's official release.

Regarding Ford's age: I have a feeling that it's going to be an afterthought while watching the movie. It's set in '57 so it's only going to take viewers about one minute to say to themselves, "Oh, he's just older." It won't be an issue. It's kind of like Paul Newman's character in The Color of Money in 1986 which was a sequel to The Hustler made in the mid-60's. Everyone was wondering how they could pull this off--until they watched the movie and they saw "O his character is just an older version." We're just watching a more grown up Indy and I think people will be cool with that, because I mean, I can't think of a reason for someone not be cool with that.

Exactly. In an episode of the Young Indiana Jones show, Harrison Ford did a guest spot as an older Indy during the early 50s. People had no problem playing an older Indy then.
I am not sure of Indy's actual birthdate, but lets just say for arguments sake he was 16 in 1912 (as seen in TLC) So during this new film taking place in the mid to late 50s, Indy should only be in his late 50s to early 60s. No problem for me being played by Harrison Ford who is only 66.
My main worry of this film is the script. Supposedly Darabont's first script was excellent and Lucas turned it down and went with something that he was happy with. After the Star Wars prequels, I don't trust Lucas at all with a script.
