'Superhero Movie' Trailer!
Filed under: Comedy, Trailers and Clips
NOTE: You can find the new trailer right here.
It's been a while since I've seen a good spoof. I don't think that I've even bothered watching one since Scary Movie. So of course, a Leslie Nielson movie that doesn't have him playing President Harris makes me curious -- especially when he's playing Uncle Ben. A trailer for Superhero Movie (previously called Superhero!) has popped up online, and you can see it right here.
As you can tell from the trailer, it looks like this flick should be called "Dragonfly-Man." It's basically a trailer full of Spider-Man spoofs, although IMDb doesn't list Spidey among the spoofs, but does list Batman Begins and Fantastic Four. That's my only real complaint about the trailer, which makes it look like it just took the Spider-Man script and spoofed it scene by scene. Still, I loved the spastic rush to change into the superhero outfit, because you just know that it isn't as easy as Spider-Man or Superman make it seem.
The comedy opens March 28, and also features Sara Paxton, Drake Bell, Christopher McDonald, Brent Spiner, Jeffrey Tambor, and Marion Ross.

That looks like a Netflix queue filler to me. Not too bad, but not good enough to see in a theater.

Obviously I cannot comment on a movie I haven't seen yet, but this is what I prefer in a spoof. The Date / Epic / Spartan flicks have such a desperately scattershot approach that even IF the comedy was any good, you still wouldn't have much of an actual movie.
As far as Superhero Movie writer / director Craig Mazin goes, let's just say I'm not a big fan of Senseless or RocketMan -- but he did direct a very amusing superhero comedy called The Specials, so maybe this one will be a pleasant surprise.

After all the ripping done on Meet The Spartans, I can't believe people even give a shit about this movie.

The Date / Epic / Spartan flicks are terrible because they have no humility in their jokes or spoofs. The Naked Gun, Airplane, Hot Shots! (no coincedence Zucker Brother/Abrahams movies) work is that the central characters have heart and try to wade through the comedy with purpose instead of becoming desperate schtick. The only bad I saw in this trailer is dancing on the wall, that is a Date / Epic / Spartan kind of camp that is pretty lame.
