What Is Disney's Plan for 'Pirates 4'?
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Casting, Disney, Fandom, Johnny Depp, Remakes and Sequels
No source knows Disney better than Jim Hill Media, which is why anyone interested in the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise should pay attention to this new info. Actually, some of it is not that new -- you may remember a couple months back when Keira Knightley told reporters that she had no intention of returning to the series for a fourth film -- well, Hill reports that the current thinking inside the house of mouse for how to proceed with an inevitable fourth Captain Jack adventure would not involve either the Elizabeth or Will characters, who were so neatly wrapped up in the button at the end of the last film. Their show is wrapped. The fourth film, according to Hill, will "toss the Elizabeth and Will characters over the side in favor of doing a bawdy buddy picture which would star Jack Sparrow and Barbossa. Where both captains of the Black Pearl would initially be competing for the exact same prize."
"Eventually, all the double crossing would have to stop as these two rivals were then forced to join forces in order to defeat some supernatural terror," Hill says, going on to speculate on a possible problem with the Pirates franchise and the National Treasure franchise both wanting to pursue a 'fountain of youth' story in their next installment. "Wouldn't it be funny if -- when Benjamin Gates arrived at the Fountain of Youth -- he then found Captain Jack Sparrow and Barbossa?" Hill asks. "It could be the Disney version of Alien vs. Predator." Not likely. And anyway, who are they going to replace Keira Knightley with in this next film? If I'm going to be watching another three hours of poor CGI and sitcom-level humor, they better have some saucy wenches for me to look at.

Haha. Sitcom humor certainly, but poor CGI? I thought that was one of the film's few assets...well, besides Captain Jack.

As long as there is no more Will and Elizabeth, then I'm game for a PotC4.

Poor CGI? what planet are you living on? Plus Keira Knightley looks like a dude so they'd better get either Sophia Myles or Romola Garai in the next one.

Mr. Stewart is the same fellow who admitted to not being overly impressed with Batman Begins, and expressed possible excitement at the thought of Tyler Perry being cast in the new Star Trek movie (yes THAT Tyler Perry).
I think he just says things like this to get a rise.

Kiera Knightley looks like a dude?
Nah, she's one of the very few actresses I'll watch to see. Smart, non-needy, great body...
As for poor CGI, at times, yes. At times no. The ship exploding to pieces around Napoleon was outstandingly well done.
The humor often worked. The plots occasionally did. It worked wonderfully in 1. It worked well enough in 2 to keep me entertained. 3 lost me at times, such as the billion jacks, but pulled it together at times. And lost it again others.
I'd be interested in more, but I think Kiera is almost a necessity. I think too much Jack is a bad thing. They need to find a compelling baffle for him, and a compelling reason for that baffle to be there. Kiera Knightley was perfect. Whathisname, the guy with the ponytail, wasn't terrible but wasn't compelling (I don't even remember his name.)

The last Pirates made absolutely no sense to me. If you were able to follow that storyline, I commend you. You must have been reading a FAQ as you watched. I will not watch another. I sat through 3, 3 being the worst. All the special effects in the world don't make a good movie.

1. No more POTC. The first was fun. The last two were loaded with poor writing, bad CGI and horrible direction.
2. Why must Disney milk every film for as many sequels as possible? Aren't they making like 2 more of those uber-retarded National Treasure films?

Yes, please ditch Keira & Orlando---the best part of the films, in addition to the special effects, were Capt. Jack and Barbossa. I wouldn't plan on this happening, if at all, for a few years down the road.

I have to agree witht he others, sorry, Ryan, but you're insane. The effects in POTC 3 where some of the best commited to film to date and ILM raised the bar once again.

Who would give a crap about if Kiera Knightly was in it? Ye wouldn't care about any salty wenches to gawk at! The end of the third movie was a total open ending so they seriously need to continue! And if Kiera Knightly wanted 30% more fans (Trust me, i did research!) she would do a third movie just to get the teenage men watching! Kiera, if you read this, go for it and abord the Flying Dutchman and clear up that whole open ending also!
I also know that Johnny Depp agreed to Jerry Bruckheimer that he would do many of these movies if they came to be successful. Johnny is a great attraction to many movie goers so if any of the shooting stars want an increase in fan population, they would join in the hope for a fourth movie and mabey even more if they knew waht was good for them.

The first Pirates of the Caribbean was great, not too sure about the other two, tho the special effects were top notch of course, will the fourth be able to maintain the quality of the first?
