Ernie Hudson Grabs a 'Dragonball'
Filed under: Casting, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
Ah, Ernie Hudson. Is there anyone out there who doesn't like this guy? While he still finds gigs, and continues to work, to me he's one of those guys that immediately jets me back to the '80s and '90s -- not to the hair, the awful fashions, or kickass music, but rather to film and television. Remember when... He popped up in Bosom Buddies and The New Odd Couple? Of course, there's also the super-mega-awesome-epic Ghost Busters and Ghostbusters II. Or his stints as Reggie in The Basketball Diaries and Sergeant O'Malley in Airheads. Or Warden Leo Glynn from Oz.Now Variety reports that Hudson has nabbed himself another quirky role -- this time in James Wong's Dragonball. (You know, based on the anime about this kid named Goku who has gather Dragon Balls and stop Piccolo from taking over the world.) Unfortunately, there's no word on who he'll play. Do any of you fans out there have an idea? Is there a Dragonball Ghostbuster, perhaps? Some sort of cop dude? He plays a lot of those.
Chime in below, and while you're at it -- what's your favorite Hudson role?

As Rich said, Mr Popo (pronounced poe-poe, as opposed to poo-poo) was pretty much the only black guy in DBZ, although they seem to have disregarded race for the rest of the cast so he could really be just about anyone.

As long as it isn't Mr. Popo. That character is OFFENSIVE. That's the only thing I hate about Dragonball. Any live action Dragonball should have the character omitted. I could see him playing Kami-sama, Piccolo's older other half.

So he's that guy in Basketball Diaries!
Yeah, he's either Mr. Popo or an alien.

i'm hoping the movie will be nothing like the cartoon in visuals. of course piccolo should still be green and Tien have three eyes, but the overly cartoonish characters like Popo and Oolong need not be included.
If it's dragonball he could be one of the guys from the earth "defense" forces, or really anyone of the Z warriors. I don't race should be an issue when casting something like that.

The first character that came to mind for me was Mr. Satan/Hercule. He always seemed like an older character and for some reason he struck me as being of African ancestry.

Ernie Hudson ought to have been nominated for an Oscar for "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle."
