Discuss: What TV Show(s) Will Hit the Big Screen Next?
We're only a few months away from Sex and the City's big movie release. Of course, that leads to the question: What television show will get made into a movie next? We usually get geek and retro fare making the jump, but since this is a romantic comedy, the door will be open for a whole bunch of recently-wrapped series. Arrested Development is getting yet another stab at life, but what else could make it?MTV recently talked with Birds of America co-stars Lauren Graham and Matthew Perry about the possibility of their super-popular shows becoming feature films. Graham, well, she says she doesn't know, no matter how many times people keep asking her -- and she has no idea what it would be about: "Nothing much happened; we just talked a lot." That's true, but a feature film could allow Amy Sherman-Palladino to finally give us that ending she referenced for so long, but that we never got, leaving us in an unfulfilled, post-Gilmore disappointment. Perry, meanwhile, says: "everyone's running around doing different things. I think we're trying to organize a thing soon." However, by "thing" he means a dinner with the Friends cast. Sneaky bugger.
Should SatC end up being a big money maker, methinks we'll at least hear a bunch of possible plans for these old shows. It's just too bad that it's too late for more My So-Called Life.
Which wrapped television series would you like to see on the big screen?

That, and another canceled in it's prime TV show: "Wonderfalls" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361256/). Arrested Development will make an excellent film though. I don't really know much else that I care for that hasn't been mined to its limits on television first. That's the thing. Why make a movie if you've seen it all on TV?
Which is why Arrested Development should be a movie. It was canceled before all of its stories were finished.

Considering that 'Gilmore' and 'Friends' are basically my favourite TV shows ever, Graham and Perry's comments are a little heartbreaking, I've got to say.

Serenity 2.
And then, after that:
Gilmore Girls? Yes, I'd say so. The last season was crushingly mediocre because of Amy's absence, and I'd love to see her bring closure to the series (and even more so if it could somehow erase the final season).

Veronica Mars. The rumored 4th season was supposed to be a few years later with Veronica in the FBI. Of course it never happened. That would be a good movie I think.

I agree with AJ: Serenity 2.
And then, bring back Agent Dale Cooper for a new wave of mysteries in Twin Peaks.
Several of the cast members from SportsNight are better known now (Felicity Huffman, for example), and it would be great to see where the characters are now. (Plus, it would return Aaron Sorkin to the strongest material of his career.)

I'm still waiting for "I Dream of Jeannie", "The Munsters", "Land of the Lost" and "Shazam!" to hit the big silver screen.
I would like to see "Lost" create a story for the big screen, like "X-Files" and "Twin Peaks" did.

"Sea Hunt"
The movie should star Jeff Bridges, the son of Lloyd Bridges, who played Mike Nelson in the original series.
It should retain the original music.
No twenty-something hunk should be cast in order to attract young female viewers. Mike Nelson works alone.
The movie should not be rated beyond PG-13.
The writer and director should be very familiar with and interested in the style of the original series.
It should not be about global warming or Iraq.
It should not be a comedy, and Mike Nelson should not have a comic sidekick. The names Eddie Murphy or Owen Wilson should not be connected with this movie.

This one's easy, Heroes.
Tim Kring started spending his strike time mapping out the Heroes universe, the entire course of the series, and if he wants to write his name down in tv/film history books the natural thing would be to have the tv show end with a cliffhanger at the end of the May sweeps (7-10 years from now), then wrap the series up in a full length motion picture, released on July 4th weekend of the same year.

Oh come on now, y'all aren't thinking big movie screen here. What's the point of taking a good show and turning it into a movie? That approach only leads to disappointment (see any number of the AWFUL movies made from hit shows so far) What they need to do is take an awful show with a great premise and turn that into a full length feature. That way the film is much more likely to be better then the original material.
My vote: Manimal
anyone?

That's easy... DEADWOOD! Come on, the show is a masterpiece but it needs some sort of closure as the series was cancelled after the third season. A big screen finale would would tie up the loose ends and possibly attract more fans.

Forget Serenity 2--I'm thinking like Serenity 5, at least.
I agree with the person who said Heroes, if that show unjustly gets the axe before its prime. I just don't want it to jump the shark.
The May cliff-hanger, July 4th movie isn't a bad idea.

CRIME STORY.
I think Hollywood could make a heck of a movie (or even movie franchise) based on Michael Mann's story of 1960s Chicago detective Mike Torello trying to take down the mob.

WRKP.
I realize that the show is a classic. It's one of my favorite shows.
If the casting is right and the story is brought forward to the present time it might just work. Change KRP to an FM station that is being pressured by Internet & Satellite radio, corporate media (ClearChannel?), etc. Keep the characters but update them to today.
