New 'Step Brothers' and 'Get Smart' Trailers
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Fandom, Movie Marketing, Trailers and Clips
Two new trailers for two films I was kinda looking forward to have arrived online, and I'm feeling a sense of discomfort. It's not terribly strong, because it's early, but there's definitely an uneasy vibe there. The first trailer, for Step Brothers, makes it look like the film has potential, but ultimately suffers because it's way too long. Directed by the reliable Adam McKay, and starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, this one tells of two unemployed, spoiled grown men who eventually become best friends after their single parents marry. It's Ferrell, so it's silly, but for a first trailer it's just so damn long. I know we sometimes gripe about teasers, and we itch for a longer look at something, but there's something to be said for leaving us itching for more. This first trailer for Step Brothers leaves me interested in seeing more (because I love all three of these guys), but I'm not scratching at anticipation hives. Watch it now at Yahoo and let us know.
Next up, we have Get Smart. Hmmm. Loved the TV show. I dig the idea. I dig this cast. I get it. But do I want to see it? I know the original was silly, but does this new film take it too far? I'm still on the fence -- though Anne Hathaway looks pretty damn good -- so I'll leave it up to you to decide what you think of this. And is it just me, or do you half expect Steve Martin to show up at some point wearing that ridiculous mustache. Watch the trailer over at Apple and let us know.

Well it's a fad for people to say that a Will Ferrell movie sucks as soon as they see one trailer for it. I could care less what anyone else thinks, because they are always wrong.
However I really liked the trailer. Reminded me of Hot Rod. My favorite part is the collapsing bunk bed, really funny stuff.
As far as the Get Smart trailer goes, not as strong as Step Brothers' trailer, but still good, they also saved the best part for the end of the trailer, with the kid in the car saying "Mom Mom Mom!".
I'm prepared to see both movies, no matter what the critics say, because they have a built-in fan of John C. Reilly, Will Ferrell and Steve Carell here. Lots of Double LL's... weird.

Is there supposed to be romantic potential between Carell and Hathaway in the "Get Smart" remake? Because that's a 20-year age difference, and it shows.

I'm excited for Step Brothers and was before that trailer. Get Smart had me on the fence until I saw that trailer just now. Now, I'm pretty psyched to see it.

Loved "Get Smart" -- Don Adams made the whole show work with his dry approach. But the trailer for the new film looks like any other generic comedy. The "missed it by that much" line is painful, and Hathaway has yet to bowl me over in any project. Love Carell, but this looks like a misfire. And don't desecrate the Cone of Silence!

lol @ MCW, yeah because every Ferrell movie has been comedic gold, right? Bewitched? Blades of Glory?
I didn't bother with the trailer for Step Brothers but I am excited for Get Smart. I think Carell is perfect for the Adams role.

@MCW - are you serious, every Will Ferrell movie is hilarious? Is that your stance? I love Anchorman and I loved Ferrell on SNL but every movie is a parody of every other movie, predictable and there are a couple chuckles (except Blades of Glory and the horrible Talladega Nights) and totally unoriginal. How can you watch the same movie over and over? I'm curious, what did you think of movies like The 40-Year Old Virgin or Juno or Knocked Up? Little Miss sunshine?
