Disney To Release 'Tron 2' and Pirates 4 in 2011?

Sometimes it never feels like the film world really moves forward.A Disney spy reports that Disney has plans to release a bunch of sequels in 2011, one of which is their long-long-long awaited sequel to Tron . That is 29 years after the original was released, which surely must be some kind of record. Hasn't it been just too long? Even the plan to release it in 3-D doesn't really freshen it up for me, but I never was a big fan of the film.
But a franchise much nearer and dearer to the hearts of a younger generation may also be revived -- word has it that Disney also plans to release a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean. And there are conflicting reports on where Disney wants to go with it. Some within the studio want to do a smaller film, probably heavy on the Jack Sparrow, and lighter on the special effects budget. Others want to go completely the opposite and make it beyond fantastical, with dinosaurs and steampunkish floating fortresses. (To be honest, it sounds like some Disney execs have been playing Pirates of the Cursed Seas. That isn't as crazy as it sounds, they did a Pirates set with the company.)
I think it is inevitable a fourth film will be made, particularly after the bitter disappointment caused by the third installment. The Pirates frenzy is just starting to abate and with a bit of breathing room, it would undoubtedly be just as popular. And perhaps most importantly for my household, my sister's boyfriend will have a job impersonating Jack Sparrow for a few more years.

I agree, no more sequels. That said, I didn't think the third one was that bad. It was about on level with the others. They're fun, shallow, piratey, action films.

I wish I wasn't so madly in love with those Pirates movies. Bloated? Yes. Confusing as all hell? Yes. Long enough to make your ass fall asleep in the theater? Yes.
But I sooo want a fourth one. I just can't help it.

I have to admit, I'm in the same boat. (No pun intended.)
I didn't think the third film was that bad either -- I just wish they had taken the time to iron out the plot kinks and realize Calypso was a terrible idea. But there were some great moments in it.
Mostly, I want to see Barbossa again. He's my favorite character and if it was a movie focused on him and Jack, I'd count the days.

What happened to originality? I guess all the ideas for movies that could ever exist have been used up.
FAIL.

When have big budget summer tentpole films ever been about originality?
I give the series a big yawn too (though I liked the first and thought the 3rd at least somewhat sorta redeemed the second, in a very lowered-expectations DVD rental way), but to reboot the series is a no-brainer for the execs at Disney.
If the focus is more on Jack Sparrow and less on convoluted, contrived love triangles and every last kitchen sink CGI effect possible, then there's at least some hope...

I didn't hate the third Pirates movie, though I can't say I liked it anywhere near as much as the first (which I absolutely love). At least Norrington seemed to be more or less himself again (after acting in ways that felt completely out of character to me in the second movie) and Barbossa was back. So, yeah, if they focus on Jack and Barbossa, I'd probably be on board for more Pirates.
As to Tron . . . I'm really rather fond of the original, but I think it's mostly because of the actors who appear in it. David Warner is one of my very favorite actors and I'm also a bit of a fan of Jeff Bridges (originally, believe it or not, because he played the voice of Prince Lir in The Last Unicorn) and Bruce Boxleitner (because of Babylon 5). So I guess the question is whether any of them will reprise their roles. If so, you can probably count me in for Tron 2. Otherwise, I'd have to say I'm at least dubious, but I'll try to keep an open mind.

A really good script of Jack and Barbossa continuing their struggle over the Black Pearl intrigues me. Their comedy in #3 was some of the best part of the film. Still, lets not carry this thing too far until we kill the joy altogether. Rocky 10, Rambo 13, Star Wars episode 17, Pirates 22...

I'm gonna see Indy IV so I can't talk any smack to anyone who wants to see more Pirates...
Tron I've been hearing about for YEARS. I'll believe it when I see it on the screen.
Calypso was SUCH a bad idea...

The Pirates movies were indeed messes, but entertaining messes. I feel dirty saying that, as I rarely admit anything bad is entertaining, but these fit the role.
A shame about Norrington, though. I really though they could continue without Keira Knightley just fine by going with the misadventures of Jack, Barbossa and Norrington as an odd trio. But so much for that. Barbossa and Jack alone seems like it would fall apart extremely quickly. Norrington was kind of needed to tie it together and give it a straight man.

I thought the third would be good, but some was good and some that wasn't thrill about it.One thing that I wasn't happy about they didn't have many Captain Jack. They Jack on the ship and in the cell and that was all.It was more for Will & Elizabeth so I hope the fourth one have more Captain Jack.
