Update: Swayze's reps hadn't commented more to Reuters at the time Moviefone ran their piece, but a reader kindly pointed us to this story on People that indicates a more optimistic outlook for Swayze. -- ed.
Well, this news is depressing as hell. Patrick Swayze, 55, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
I have no idea if Swayze reads Cinematical, but we would like to extend our condolences and sadness at this news, and wish him and his family well. I know we have lots of Swayze fans out there, so feel free to use this space to extend your own thoughts and well-wishes to Swayze. What's your favorite Swayze movie moment?

Swayze was the MAN on 1989-90. Got to give him that. And he scored indie/cult cred with Donnie Darko. There's been a lot of cheese along the way, but some solid performances, too. Thanks Swayze! And remember....

Well, all I can do is wish him the best. Hope that it isn't terminal, and if it is, wish him as much time with his family as he can muster before he goes out fighting.

It looks like he is responding to treatment, so his prognosis is much better first reported. I wish him well. That said, I'm bummed. Whether I'm a fan of a person or not I still find things like this rather sad. I'm not the world's biggest Swayze fan or anything but I loved him in 'The Outsiders'. My sister still loves 'Red Dawn', and my mom loved him in 'To Wong Foo Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar'.

It is really sad.
I was really shocked.
I just hope that he can get out of this.
I think that the last thing to die is hope.

Pancreatic cancer is totally treatable. My grandmother had treatment for it and they gave her five years to live at most... that was 13 years ago.
What? No mention of "Road House"?

Perhaps get your facts straight and from a more reliable source before you claim he only has a "short time to live," because that is false. I mean really, moviefone?

Damn, pancreatic cancer. My dad died suddenly of that about ten years ago, and it is a horrible way to go. I hope the Swayze gets treated and goes on to live a long and healthy life!
I really loved his portrayal of an oily motivational speaker in Darko. His appearance in Keeping Mum was also very funny.

Medical treatment for pancreatic cancer has advanced amazingly over the past few years. I'm a nurse working in an ER and I can tell you that as few as 5 years ago, Pancreatic cancer was a death sentence of 3-6 months. Guaranteed. Nowadays, the current treatment regimen is amazing in that I'm seeing more and more patients that have lived 2, 3 and even 7 years after diagnosis.
Have hope. There has been no statement from physicians except for (what I read) "limited disease" and that he's "responding well to treatment." These are usually good things as oncologists are the most pragmatic physicians you will ever meet.

A year ago someone from my close family died of pancreatic cancer in too short a time for any of us to grasp what was happening. And now my own father is terminal. Patrick may be a celeb, but these news are hitting very very close to home in my heart. I feel silly in thinking that him flying his own plane to go for chemo is a good sign, and just hope that somewhere people keep fighting this, and keep help advancing research. Stay strong, Patrick!

My favorite line he ever spoke in a movie is from "Dirty Dancing" when he says, "No one puts Baby in a corner." It makes me cry with laughter.
But a close second is in his role in "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar" where he very campily says, "I think today is a say something hat day." I love love love it.
And I will miss him and his beautiful dancer's body and sexy masculine voice. He's a rare talent.
