Dragonball Z Movie Delayed!
Filed under: Animation, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Fandom, Distribution, 20th Century Fox, Comic/Superhero/Geek
Bad news, Dragonball Z fans. Your long awaited film adaptation won't be coming this year. 20th Century Fox has chosen to delay the film's release until April 2009, due to it facing massive box office competition from The International, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Tropic Thunder, and Wild Child. All of these films are being released the same day to battle it out, and Fox was having none of it.
This begs the question of why they didn't just choose a release date later this year -- or even move it up. Delaying it an entire year not only disappoints fans, but it makes the film look unfinished. The audience can forget all about it and dwindle away.
I don't follow anime at all -- and my only encounter with this Dragonball phenomenon occurred in a Pokemon shop, where the owner shrieked "Oh my God! Your hooded sweatshirt -- it is Dragonball Z!" It was just an ordinary Chinese dragon, but he was so excited that it hurt to disappoint him. So in looking this up so I could properly write about it, I learned two things -- first, what half the spiky-haired guys at Comic-Con are dressed as. Secondly, this has a very impressive cast that includes James Marsters, Chow Yun-Fat, Emmy Rossum, and Ernie Hudson. That is star power that can make a successful 2008 release, so shame on you, Fox.
So, I am sorry to bring this news to you. Don't hold it against me, but feel free to rant below. I understand your pain, if not the source material.

Angry.
As unsure as I am that this will be any good, I want to see it and get it over with.
If it is terrible, I will refuse to see any sequels (if they are made) unless I see stellar reviews from fans.
Chop-chop people.

And here I thought it was BAD news! But if I had said something to the effect of "does anyone care" I would have been buried in Dragonball hate mail. ;)

thank god. i'd rather they spend another year perfecting it than just throw it out there to meet people's already insanely low expectations.

I was hoping Fox was going to say, "Psych! Just kidding! We do have half a brain cell."

Rumour has it that Akira Toriyama is not very happy, with development of the upcoming, Dragonball, adaptation movie. Not so long ago, he waged a little 'word war', with a few of FOX's fat cats, who seem to be running the show. It is not quite known what Akira Toriyama exactly said, but things have been flying around, that what was said was not very pleasant, for most of the part.

I agree this movie looks horrible so far. In the few production pics I've seen Goku is thin of arm and hair. He seems to be going to a university of some kind (Your joking right?) and getting hit by a car that looks suspiciously like Bumblebees car form and wrecking the car.
First off I heard it was going to the fight against King Picolo. Really? Is that the best place to start? I mean it might be a good intro to go into a sequal about the Sayins but why hold back now. Best thing would be start with either the Sayin or Freiza sagas they have plenty of character development in them.
Now I know sometimes you have to combine minor characters in a movie but Krillian is an essential character. Get rid of Tien and Yamcha but keep Goku's best friend.
Also I really like Emmy Rosum she is beautiful and a skilled actress. But Bulma is eye candy. She is a voluptuos vixen and Emmy isn't.

You know that Dragonball is an old anime and not well known to the human's......But those who know it love it....and the one's who has just seen 1 or 2 episodes say that it is action packed even for a anime cartoon... So if Fox is setting this movie back they will not see the proceeds from another movie like they would from Dragonball Z....."So Fox Get It Through Your Thick Heads... We Need This Movie"

I tell you something, if they don't get this movie right and it sux then they are gonna have a very dissappionted audience. Not to mention they will most likely loose a lot of money because the movie just sucked. I love this anime but this movie adaptation better not suck. Either they should listen to the fans and give them what they want or leave it alone and let someone else do a better job

I think the cast of Dragon Ball sucks, because there is so much changes, which Hollywood sucks most of the time. Non of the cast resembles the original comic adaptation. X-men is close enough, and I think its brilliant casting, although Juggernut should have been bigger in size, as he is bigger than the HULK. So Hollywood really need some talent, and not short cut and rip off the peoples monies and time watching not exactly what the fan is expecting but rather very general. I think they also made a lot of changes to Transformers and the plot was very disappointing, and rubbish in the end. They made Transformers so weak agains guns and some bunch of soilders, and megatron died to fast and too easy, and the stupid boy seems like he saved the world, which was very childish. I think many of us are sucked into Holywood, and i think there should be another competitor to Hollywood so that they can improve and produce better quality films. Godzilla was a major failure. You just cannot afford to make mistakes in mega story movie just like the reputation Dragon ball has as a comic. So people please please please dont just think of monies, think of producing something quality, and it should be a passion.
