Sarah Marshall Seriously Sucks!
Filed under: Comedy, Fandom, Movie Marketing, Posters
Poor guy. The marketing campaign for Forgetting Sarah Marshall has officially hit the net, and it involves a website, a video and a new teaser poster. The film's main character, Peter Bretter (Jason Segel), has started a blog dedicated to how much he truly loves his girlfriend Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell). All of his blog posts gush over the gal, and his latest includes a video (which we've provided after the jump) featuring Peter talking to his beautiful girlfriend, telling her how he always knew they'd be together forever.
Ah, but now a new teaser poser has hit the net, with a website that reads IHateSarahMarshall.com (instead of the current address, ILoveSarahMarshall.com), and so I imagine this entire marketing campaign will take a new -- dare I say ugly -- turn as Peter deals with the fact that his gal has broken his heart and ditched him for some other dude. Forgetting Sarah Marshall will premiere at the South By Southwest Film Festival this week, and you bet your ass we'll be giving you an early review of the latest flick to carry the Judd Apatow name. Forgetting Sarah Marshall officially hits theaters on April 18.

This movie looks good....I saw the huge billboard that just said "I am so over Sarah Marshall" and had to look it up...so glad I did. Can't wait for the movie! (Superbad is one of my favorite movies even though I'm a 47 yr. old woman and I think it's aimed at teenage boys!)

This is a really ugly ad campaign. It's against our community standards to write "I hate (person's name) in huge letters on a wall. It may be cute if you are an adult, but not so good if you are a parent trying to teach your child not to he a meanspirited bitch.

The campaign goes even further, with fake fan sites, fake blogs, fake NBC Show Lineups:

They did a great job with this, and as the WOM spreads, we're going to see a huge amount of press...

One of the extremely genuine ad campaigns! It sure is an eye turner with the huge banner on the walls and an easy to remember website URL.
out of the 10 guys and gals that went to watch 21 in the mall, 9 of us looked up this website and realized its about a movie!
For starters we thought its a hate blog about some guy peter bretter, and realized its fake blog for a real movie!
Quite impressed :)

"I Hate Apatow!" Well I don't but several REAL Sarah Marshall's have expressed their anti-love for Judd. Fancast interviewed Sarah Marshall from Greenfield, Mass. who stated "I was shocked to see all the billboards and posters that hated against me and people with my name," “It’s just so bizarre”. More Apatow disses and kisses here: http://bigpicture.fancast.com/2008/04/fancast_feature_sarah_marshall.html
Now I want to see the film even more!
