Deja vu time once again. Today's gaggle of trailers all, for varying reasons, have a ring of familiarity to them. All together now: Once more with feeling.

Wanted
I've seen this before, haven't I? Not exactly. This is a brand spanking new trailer for the Angelina Jolie film based on the graphic novel by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones. A young man with the rare gift of being able fire a bullet along a curved trajectory is asked to join a secret society of good guy assassins ("kill one so a thousand can survive"). Morgan Freeman plays, well, Morgan Freeman with a slightly gruffer edge to his usual fatherly demeanor. Jolie is hot to the point of being incendiary here (nice tats, and no that isn't a typo), but the "I'm cooler than God" shtick gets pretty annoying. The new trailer gives a better feel for the film than the teaser that's been out for awhile, and it looks like it might be a fun ride if you're in the mood for over-the-top action. 100 Feet
This one definitely looks familiar. Didn't this used to be called Disturbia, and it looks like Shia Labeouf has had a sex change. Oh wait, that's Famke Janssen. She's playing a woman sentenced to three years of house arrest, nifty ankle bracelet included, for killing her abusive cop husband. Christopher Campbell first posted about this one a little over a year ago. I'm no lawyer, but doesn't it seem odd to place someone on house arrest for that long? Prison starts to look pretty good, though, when the ghost of her dead S.O.B. husband starts looking for some payback. In addition to the echoes of Disturbia, the scene where Janssen screams "What do you want?" to the unseen entity reminded me a lot of George C. Scott in The Changeling, and the house arrest for killing a cop part recalls a decent little indie flick called Cherish. Still, this looks like it might be good for a few scares.


My Blueberry Nights
I saw the international trailer for this one months ago. Not only is this a new trailer, but it represents a cut of the film that differs from the one shown at Cannes (as Monika pointed out here). Infuriatingly, there's little indication of what the plot might be, much like the previous trailer. There's some striking imagery, though, and the film's impressive cast which includes Norah Jones, Jude Law, David Strathairn and Natalie Portman is shown off to good effect. Apparently it's about a young woman (played by Jones) wandering from town to town in the wake of her recent romantic break up. For a better idea of what it's all about, check out James's excellent review of the Cannes version, which frankly gives me more inspiration to see the film than the trailer.

Meet Bill
The resemblance here is pretty superficial, but this one reminds me of the forthcoming Forgetting Sarah Marshall, as both films feature protagonists dealing with the fact that the love of their respective lives has eyes for someone else. Bill (Aaron Eckhart) is a bit of a schlub who finds his wife (Elizabeth Banks) is sleeping with a TV news reporter. The teen that Bill is mentoring works up a plan to get Bill's wife back by making her think Bill is dating a lingerie sales girl played by Jessica Alba. While I've come to think of Alba's presence in a film as a red flag, the part looks like it's well within her limited range. This looks like it could be good for a few laughs.

The Love Guru
Mike Meyers playing an over-the-top character with an accent? Yes, he's done it before -- that's what he does -- and I for one will gladly plunk down ten bucks to watch him do it again. Meyers plays an American raised by gurus in India who has returned to the U.S. for a career in the lucrative self-help industry. There's some pretty funny bits here with Verne ("I shall call him Mini Me.") Troyer as the coach of a Canadian hockey team. Again, we have Jessica Alba here, but with someone like Meyers in the spotlight the amount of damage she can do should be minimal. Check out the trailer right here:
