Joshua Jackson Throws His Hat Into the Spider-Man Ring
Filed under: Casting, RumorMonger, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
I've made it no secret that I'm ridiculously happy that Christian Bale was picked to be the latest incarnation of Batman. Sure, other people might have done a good job, but Bale is flipping perfect. That being said, what would you have thought of, say, Joshua Jackson as the dark hero? And, if you didn't want him as Bruce Wayne, what about Peter Parker?A few days after hearing that Chris Cooper almost got the role of Lt. Gordon in Batman Begins (I love Cooper, but phew!), MTV has posted a similar discussion with Joshua Jackson. According to the ol' Dawson's Creek actor, he was one of the "last four or five guys" up for the gig -- and it's not the only superhero gig he's been interested in. Jackson said: "You know, honestly, out of the big super heroes, the guy that I would most naturally be a fit to play is Spider-Man, but that one is pretty well locked up. And, frankly, I'm too old to play that character because the parable of Spider-Man is the teenager going through puberty."
Upon hearing that Tobey Maguire hasn't signed on for the future flicks in the works, Jackson continued: "Well then, yeah. That was really subtle of me putting my name in the hat." Of course, it's nothing more than a fleeting interest right now, but you never know what could happen. What would you do if Maguire hands his red tights to Jackson?

I love Christian Bale, but if he didn't exist, I think Josh Jackson would have been a fine fit for Batman. It certainly would have been interesting if he had played opposite his former Creek co-star Katie Holmes, in the midst of the Tom Cruise fiasco!
I think Tobey Maguire has a nerdiness that fills really well with the Spider Man character, and Josh Jackson may be a little too beefy (muscle-wise) for that role, but i'm sure he could do it.

Awwww! Batman's Creek!
Dont see him as Batman but he's ok as Spidey. Topher Grace was miscast as Venom when I can see him as Peter Parker and Joseph Levitt Gordon gets my vote. Cruise is already worried about his beloved Katie opposite Bale let alone Josh Jackson who was her first love offscreen and on WB's DC. VanDerBeek and Jackson fought for Katie off the show and onscreen(thanks to the new book by theWB President Susanne Daniels "Rise and Fall of the WB and UPN network)

My problem with the Spiderman Flicks is the sheer Awfulness of Tobey Maguire. He has no charisma, He just bulges his eyes out and talks in that sickly high-pitched voice that makes him sound like the squeaky voiced teen. Sam Raimi is a great director but he failed to pick someone interesting to play Peter Parker and instead picked a grinning idiot.

I'm not sure how I really feel about him taking over the role.
It might be good. I just hope that he doesn't start banging his teacher again.

I say no not a good fit for Spidey... but looking back at the roles he should have gotten i would deffinatly say Annican Skywalker. I remember when he was one of the main names in that battle. Just think of how much better the last 2 starwars movies could have been without craptastic Hayden Christiansen.
