Ready for More 'Alien vs. Predator'?

So it would appear that Alien vs. Predator is truly the movie franchise that will not die. No matter how many bad reviews the films get, or the overwhelming cries of 'blasphemy!' from fans of the original series, it seems like nothing is going to stop Fox from churning out another sequel in the sci-fi series. According to sources for Shock till You Drop, talk of another film in the AVP franchise has already begun to surface at 20th Century Fox -- and Shock's sources say that it is a "certainty."After AVPR: Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem was released last Christmas, Fox hadn't made any promises about the franchise. According to the film's directors, the studio was going to take a 'wait and see' approach. Cut to three months later, and Fox seems to be a little surer that another installment is a sure thing. There is no word on whether Colin and Greg Strause would return to direct again, or whether Fox is going to run with the Strause's idea of taking the story back into space. Considering their installment managed to pull in $128.8 million internationally, I think Fox might want to take their advice. Nothing is official yet, so stay tuned to Cinematical for any news that comes our way.
So what do you think? Is the AVP franchise worth keeping alive? Or more importantly, will the fans keep coming back no matter how bad the movies are?

the movie is a cynical attempt to squeeze the franchise dry, and why not? Lets face it Holywood isn't about integrity its about money- these shitty films are cheap to make, easy to write and Fox have proven twice now that it doesn't matter how bad they are there's always some shmuck out there who will go along an wallow like a pig in the mess. Its been well over 20 years since the last decent alien movie and the Predator movies have always been squarely aimed at the demographic who found the Rambo movies too challenging so bring it on. As long as we pay for the shit they'll keep serving it up!!

It's easy to say that no matter how many lousy sequels they make, the integrity of the classic originals (Alien and Aliens, to be precise) remain unblemished. But it's just not true. The more mini-aliens pop out of some B-actor's chest, the less spectacular John Hurt's final scene in "Alien" becomes.

yup it does turn the whole thing into a joke! But they are easy to write, its a sad thing because as has been rightly said the original alien movies will loose their unique ability to convince- they should check out the avp action figure website.

Even though I knew it would be atrocious, I couldn't help but choke up the 6 bucks to see Requiem just to find out WHY it was getting such poor reviews. I think getting away from Earth and putting this thing back in space will help it escape the pointless and distracting melodramatic plots of the last two. Also, the creatures in the original Alien films looked scary because they weren't set in a modern, recognizable human environments. No forests, no malls, no power plants, just vast, mysterious futuristic space stations that were as eerie as the vicious inhabitants they concealed. Seeing Aliens and Predators creep through a suburban American backyard is always going to look silly with the precedent being the Ridley Scott and James Cameron films. Erase the last two films from memory, give a space-based script to a director like Danny Boyle (Sunshine had the perfect tone for an Alien film, and 28 Days Later showed a rare and necessary sense of restraint), and for Sigourney's sake, get an A-list, up and coming actor involved.

Danny Boyle was offered Alien Resurrection and turned it down. The Fincher movie was actually very good stylish, atmospheric and innovative he just wasnt allowed to make the movie he wanted- you can see that when you watch the directors cut. The reason the movies were scary was because it wasnt CGI and we only caught glimpses of the alien - sadly we now have bad acting and full centre spread open leg Alien shots- scary for all the wrong reasons. Its time to put this nonsense franchise to bed and come up with an original concept-O' Hang on Hollywood doesnt do original concepts!!! Darn, AVPSHIT coming your way in 2009!!!!

I think AVP has an amazing potential. And it devastates me to see how AVPR managed to destroy two legends in one movie !
The absolute failure of AVPR, how it systematically misused every single interesting side of the story shocked me to the point I am actually developping my own AVP script. Enough with franchises used only to make money ! We need to go back to the spirit of the Alien tetralogy.
