Edward Norton Preps Obama Doc
He might be struggling with Marvel over the edits to The Incredible Hulk, but going green isn't the only thing on Edward Norton's mind. Variety reports that he, along with his Class 5 Films, are planning to "shop a feature documentary about the historic presidential campaign mounted by Sen. Barack Obama" to get released in 2009.The untitled picture is being directed by Amy Rice and Alicia Sams, who started shooting footage before Obama even declared his candidacy. That's some political faith! Norton says that this isn't about glorifying the subject, even though he and other involved parties are Obama supporters, but rather this came out of a discussion after a speech the man made in 2004.
"We were all so struck by Barack's speech and talked about how exciting it was to see someone from our generation, not our parents', make his presence felt in such an inspiring way. It was akin to the way I remembered my dad describing how he felt when Kennedy gave his inauguration speech." The speech led them to the project, before any of them were Obama supporters. I can see why. If the man makes it to the top, and they're there, it'll be one huge chunk of history that they've captured.
Rice and Sams will follow Obama along the entire run of his campaign for the White House, so a timetable is far from finalized.

Sigh. More shameless plugging for Barack. It's cool though, I realize all the cool kids are voting for him.
I have a theory: People are operating under the pretense that by supporting Obama, they are sending a message to their non-white friends that says "Hey, I'm not a racist!". Because no one in their right mind is voting for this guy based on his past performance. In all my years of watching presidential races, I cannot remember a campaign so rooted in "trendy" as this one. Nikes, Ipods, Facebook and Barack.

Guys, just because a politician is mentioned doesn't mean that we need to get into a political debate. Next thing you know we'll have nutjobs from the left and right spouting off their parties' talking points, and that's never fun.
I'd like to see a documentary about Ron Paul's campaign, actually. I think that would make for an excellent study in campaigns especially with the dynamics his followers (tons on the internet, not as many in the real world). Paul's campaign was the "Snakes on a Plane" of presidential runs. How did that happen and where did things go wrong?

I have two kids. I'm a recovering alcoholic with 15 plus years of sobriety. I'm also my daughter's church league assistant basketball coach and frequently volunteer to pass what lessons I've learned during my early years on to under-privileged youth at a local drug rehab.
You could not even begin to pigeon-hole me today, dear.
My statement stands. Your inability to grasp what I said lessens the meaning not one iota.

Philip -
Congratulations on your sobriety and your good works.
It's just that I see nothing wrong with a person - black or white - trying to inspire this country to come together for the good of all Americans. But I guess if you feel that there is an ulterior motive behind his inspiration rhetoric - so be it. I guess it's just "for those who have ears to hear".
I'm a recent widow and the grandmother of three. One of them is autistic and developementally delayed. I help out at the school that he attends with other disabled children, while still trying to care for aging parents.
I know I can use some inspiration in my life, especially as the world/country is today.
Have a good day dear. :)

It will be interesting to compare this to The War Room, the documentary about Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign.

My guess is that Philip has never been inspired by anyone or anything. I have had children to inspire me with their strength in mind and character. A rainy day has inspired me to create beautiful oil paintings. Philip would rather turn this into a black/white issue instead, because that's what he sees, poor thing.
But if that is your level of communication Philip, you should know that John F. Kennedy inspired a lot of black people too. I guess that's ok with you because he was...white?
