Beau Bridges Mentors Max Payne
Filed under: Action, Casting, Games and Game Movies
I'm usually not surprised by the casting in action films, but I have to say -- this upcoming Max Payne flick is definitely making me wonder whether it will be a run-of-the-mill, fluff action flick or one worth critical attention. First came Mark Wahlberg, who was a decent and unsurprising pick. But then Mila Kunis, of all people, was added to the roster. It was a bit surprising, considering the fact that a vengeful assassin is a big jump from her usual work in comedy and some crappy horror work like American Psycho Ii. Now The Hollywood Reporter posts that Beau Bridges has signed on to play B.B. Hensley, a former cop who mentors Max Payne and helps him hunt down "a cunning, ruthless killer." That makes two rumors true, as both Kunis and Bridges have signed on, so hopefully we'll find out soon if the rest of the rumored participants have signed. IMDb lists Ludacris, Donal Logue, Chris O'Donnell, and Kate Burton.
For the Payne-free readers out there, this is a big-screen adaptation of a shooter game where Payne is a cop out for revenge after his wife and baby are murdered. Production kicked off on March 3 in Toronto.

Sounds like they are ditching the drug angle and going for a straight revenge plotline.

I dont think he did that bad of a job in Crash.
I hope they keep the noir theme of the game intact. If there ever was one game suited for a film adaption it would be Max Payne.
This will be game to film adaption's first real test because the projects that came before (Doom, Resident Evil, Street Fighter) weren't known for their story. Max Payne had two things: Bullet time and it's original story.
