First Look at Johnny Depp as John Dillinger!

The Hollywood Newsroom has scored a bunch of pictures of Johnny Depp as John Dillinger on the set of
Public Enemies, which has just begun filming in Columbus, Wisconsin. They're quite small and not particularly revealing, but the girls love Depp. And I just know that somewhere, a group of Depp cosplayers (yes, they exist) are studiously trying to replicate his fedora or coat cuffs just from this shot. Can you believe how young he still looks? It's eerie.
The shots of the location are very cool too. What I wouldn't give to be an extra in a gangster film. I love the clothes of the 1920's. I wish
Marion Cotillard was in one of these, because I am dying to see her clothes. Michael Mann is set direct a cast that also includes Christian Bale, David Wenham, Channing Tatum, Giovanni Ribisi and Stephen Dorff, among others.

pretty astounding cast. Can't wait to hear more about this. And kudos to Bale for signing on to (hopefully) good films where he may be out of the spotlight, particularly with other a-list actors who are known for chewing the scenery (first Crowe, now Depp).

Dillinger did his robbing, killing and fooling(he got out of jail using a bar of soap shaped like a gun) in the 1930's

I live in Madison, which is just down the street from Columbus. I heard that theater students from a local college were hired as production assistants, and of course extra casting calls. I'm not sure if they're still filming there, but I should have really gone to check it out.

I was at the filming on the 1st day in Columbus, WI. He was doing the scene in the pic above. He drove about 10 ft away from me . They did this shot 6x's. He was very friendly waving and smiling at anyone holding a camera. I will never forget him leaning forward in the car as he was slowly driving by, He looked me in the eye, smiled and waved. WHAT A MEMORY FOR A 52 yr old woman. Thanks Johnny!
