While out at SXSW, Cinematical's Scott Weinberg and I had a chat about Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and we both agreed it was a pretty good flick. Naturally, it wasn't dark and intense enough for the hardcore fans, but we kinda liked the fact that there was this comic book film that was made for actual kids, as well as fans. It was goofy, fun, exciting and cool. Best comic flick ever? Hardly. But definitely worthy of another sequel.
Alas, according to Chris Evans (aka Johnny Storm), it would appear a third Fantastic Four is not in the cards. He tells MTV, "I'm pretty sure we won't do [another] one. I'm assuming that one is a closed book." Evans later went into a tad more detail: "After the first one was released we got wind of potential titles and plots [almost immediately], and I've heard nothing from anyone at Fox [yet]. We had all planned on doing [another] one but if there were going to be a third I think a week after the second one was released we would have heard." Too bad.
There's always a chance, however, that Johnny Storm will show up in another comic book flick; either a Silver Surfer solo film or, perhaps, a completely different hero. Will he do it if he's offered the part? "Absolutely. If Johnny Storm wanted to make a pop in appearance in one of those movies that would be a treat."
What say you? Were you hoping for a Fantastic Four 3?

I agree, let it fade away into obscurity. Maybe try to re-invent it w/new actors, writers, directors and producers. Maybe a new batch of people won't screw it up so much. The 2nd one was so bad it made me not like the first one. I really hope the supposed Silver Surfer movie makes up for it. The Thing looked cheesy, they would have been better using CGI like The Hulk. And my last rambling point, Jessica Alba is smokin' hot, but she's not a good looking blonde. Even my girlfriend thought she looked odd in FF2.

Eff the haters. FF1 and 2 were fun movies. They weren't Batman Begins or Spider-man 2, but they were enjoyable movies. Thing looked awesome for being a real suit rather than computer generated. Some people just need to nitpick no matter what.

I disagree I liked both ff4 1&2 I am in no way saying that they are better than any other comic property out there, probably the worst but i think its because the team is kinda lame... but the movie were fun they don't have to be dark... EVERY THING DOESN'T HAVE TO BE DARK.... Batman needs to be dark thats what its about, but otherwise comics are usually brightly colored, they wear tights, i mean come on. any way....i would like to see the human torch show up in a Spiderman flick they have the witty repore with each other. or even a "Ultimates" move. (lets cross our fingers for that to happen.

Chris Evans is a great talent, and he it is a true waste to be forced for anybody to share the screen with J. Alba. Go watch Sunshine....

Evans was absolutely great in Sunshine! His scene in the computer cooling tank was incredible. I was freezing just watching it. "3 out of 7, that's a lot of short straws".

No one is saying the FF movies had to be "dark". Where are people getting that?
They just need to not suck. The team is by no means lame. They just appear lame to people now because those movies were so monstrously bad.
The FF comics always had some wise cracking humor and they are an iconic Marvel team. There is NO reason why it shouldnt be possible to achieve Spiderman level quality with the FF. The movies were just horribly written, brutally miscast (note to producers - there are plenty of movies you CAN use J.A. in - her appearance in FF is just beyond ludicrous) and nearly empty of any redeeming quality.
People keep saying how "of course it doesnt please hardcore fans" and "there are always nitpickers" Well, these movies are primarily MADE for the fans. I accept that some folks loved these movies and that is their perogative, but the fact that there will be no more of them is very telling.
And none of this is a reflection on Evans. He was really the only good thing about the movies and was perfect, IMO, as Johnny Storm.

Exactly. The Incredibles showed how to have a fun, family friendly superhero movie and it was obviously modeled after the FF no less. These movies were just poorly done from the needless reimagining of the iconic Thing, to the rather embarrassing miscasting of Jessica Alba and it didn't help that the stories for both the original film and the sequel didn't manage to capture the fun of the comics at all.

Egads! End this shlock! I saw them both outta curiosity. Boring. Poorly miscast. Reed and Sue have ZERO chemistry. Ben Grimm is small. Johnny is one-dimensional. Doom was far from Doom, he was a joke. End it. Sure, Silver Surfer was cool to look at but that doesn't a good movie make. I'm fine with it being kid-friendly but it's just dumbed-down and dull.

the worse thing about FF2 was susan storm....how they managed to make one of the hottest actresses of this day look so unnaturally horrible is beyond me. She was so strange looking that she was a complete distraction throughout the movie....and not in a good way. As far as the johnny storm making a guest appearance....he should pop up in a spiderman flick...just like the old spiderman and friends cartoons from way back.

I liked these movies, dark or not, and would see a third. It's too bad they aren't making one imo.

I kinda enjoyed them, even though 1 couldn't stay away from Spider-man 1's villain plot. That said, the films already used the biggest villain the F4 have. I guess they could go with Mephisto, perhaps the Scrulls, but they pretty much cornered themselves.
