Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor Get Dirty In "Deception"
Filed under: Action, Thrillers, Mystery & Suspense, 20th Century Fox, Trailers and Clips
The trailer for Deception, the much-renamed thriller starring Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor has finally hit the net -- just as I was beginning to wonder what ever happened to the movie. The embedding links from MSN are not working, so you'll have to go watch it here. If that doesn't work, the official site also has it. McGregor plays an accountant, who is introduced to an exclusive sex club by his lawyer friend, played by Jackman. Of course, not everything is as it seems -- and poor McGregor finds himself a prime suspect in a woman's disappearance. I won't say any more than that, as I think too much is already given away in this trailer. It has a suspiciously slick look, suggesting it might have been straight-to-DVD if not for the star power. I'm trying to sound critical, because my attention was admittedly diverted by the combination of Jackman-McGregor-sex club. It's amusing to think either of them would ever need one.
Jackman looks terrifying in this, the right combination of slick charm and underlying menace. While I'm really curious to see him play a villain (The Prestige doesn't really count, and Scoop was just too cute to really be as shocking), part of me rebels. No, Hugh! You're supposed to be heroic and good all the time! I know you have to stretch as an actor and all, but I prefer you to continually save your leading ladies from singlehood, Magneto and cancer.
Ladies, this trailer should serve as a safety announcement. Never trust a man as good looking as Hugh Jackman. I did once, and had to run for it when he said "I'm throwing a party like in Eyes Wide Shut, will you help me pick out my mask?" He even had a "list" like these shady characters. So, I think we can all learn a lesson here -- or end up like one of the girls Jackman is so evilly caressing. Yes, that is a bad thing.
Deception opens April 25th, 2008.

Creepy! The trailer does reveal a bit too much, but Jackman is excellent. Who'd have thought Curly the cowboy had it in him?

It looks like a cross between The Game and Eyes Wide Shut.

Oooo... I like this side of Jackman - and McGregor is probably as solid as usual (though his accent is always a funny rollercoaster of Scottish/American traits.)
