A 'Wolfman' Producer Spills a Few Secrets

It seems like the entire online world is caught up in Wolfman fever. I don't think I have read a single negative thing about this remake, except for that brief period when Brett Ratner was attached. Every photo, every interview is eagerly devoured -- yikes, did not mean to make that pun.
One of the producers, Scott Stuber, spoke to Empire about the movie and dropped more than a few tantalizing hints about where this remake is going. The best news? Practically no CGI! Stuber says, "We really want to stick to the physical stuff. So much of what we're trying to accomplish is that when Benicio is the wolf, you really know it's Benicio Del Toro and you have the eyes and the emotion of what he is. That way you don't disassociate your emotion and you realise that the person, Lawrence Talbot, who you've got to know in the daytime is still Lawrence Talbot at night. That way you're empathetic towards him, you're angry towards him, you feel for him."
More after the jump ...
He continues, "You wouldn't get that with a completely CG creature who you disassociate from Benicio Del Toro. There will inevitably be some CG work to help with some of the transformation, but it's a Rick Baker-centric film and that's what we wanted from the get-go." And Rick Baker is being hailed as the second biggest casting coup of the movie, as well he should be. "In this, casting Rick Baker was actually one of the most important things you could do. He's the equivalent of an A-list movie star. So, getting Rick Baker was like getting Brad Pitt, in a lot of ways. He loves The Wolfman so much and has such an affinity for it."
Stuber's comments on the direction the storyline is taking are all really interesting, and far too long for me to post here, so go read the whole thing. While the story is being expanded upon, it really sounds like they are managing to tread that fine line between respect and reinvention. And the surprising revelation that del Toro is an enormous Wolfman fan and collector should reassure anyone -- no wackiness is going to happen on his watch!
