1. 21: $24.1 million
This weekend will see three new major releases representing the romantic comedy, family, and horror genres.
LeatherheadsWhat's It All About: George Clooney stars in and directs this romantic comedy set against the backdrop of the rise of professional football in the 1920s.
Why It Might Do Well: Well, it's directed by Clooney, and despite the fact that every time his name comes up I feel obliged to make a crack about Batman and Robin (those wounds have yet to fully heal), his last directorial effort was the excellent Good Night and Good Luck. That film had a $7 million budget and pulled in $54.6 million worldwide.
Why It Might Not Do Well: This one should do well enough, but based on the number of theaters, I don't see this one hitting number one.
Number of Theaters: 2,700
Prediction: $19 million
Nim's IslandWhat's It All About: A young girl (Abigail Breslin) living on a tropical island must fend for herself when her father becomes stranded far away. She soon enlists the aid of the author of a book she's been reading (Jodie Foster).
Why It Might Do Well: Of all this week's releases, this one is opening in the largest number of theaters by quite a large margin, so I see this one leading the pack in dollars.
Why It Might Not Do Well: The trailer looks interesting enough, but this feels like something that was made for the Disney Channel. Will people pay to see something like that?
Number of Theaters: 3,400
Prediction: $22 million
The RuinsWhat's It All About: Based on a novel by the author of A Simple Plan, four American tourists in Cancun find something evil lurking in a remote archaeological dig.
Why It Might Do Well: I know I love a good scare, and I know lots of other people do too. If The Ruins can deliver the shrieks it's got a chance. Shutter is holding on at number 6, so there appears to be a market for horror.
Why It Might Not Do Well: If this weekend's movie-goers prove to be a bunch of scaredy cats.
Number of Theaters: 2,500
Prediction: $12 million
Here's my prediction for next weekend's top five:
1. Nim's Island
2. Leatherheads
3. 21
4. Horton Hears a Who
5. The Ruins
Congrats to Focker for his perfect score, while my powers of cinematic precognition reached an all time low last week. Here's how we all did:
Post your predictions for the top five movies in the comments section below before 5:00PM Eastern Time on Friday. One point for every top five movie correctly named, two points for every correct placement, and one extra point for the top movie.

Am I the only one who had no clue that Nim's Island was being released this weekend? I haven't heard of a trailer, or seen any advertising at all.
