Bryan Singer's 'Valkyrie' Pushed to 2009

What in the world is going on now? Valkyrie (recently criticized by Fox's Roger Friedman, who said the film "is set up for not only failure, but ridicule") has just shifted release dates yet again (according to The Hollywood Reporter); this time moving from October 2008 to President's Day Weekend 2009. You might remember that the flick was originally supposed to hit theaters this June, before the first release date shift was made. Some claimed MGM and United Artists were moving the film to the fall in order to line up for possible Oscar consideration. Could all of this early negative talk have convinced them to, instead, target one of the first big holiday weekends of 2009?
Seems like a pretty good decision to me. With everyone trashing Tom Cruise for his non-existent German accent and silly eye patch, there was pretty much no way this film was going to be taken seriously come Oscar time. The cast definitely rocks -- no doubt there -- but if Lions for Lambs proved anything, it's that you should not release a Tom Cruise film in the middle of Oscar season unless it's Thanksgiving Weekend and we're talking Mission Impossible 4. Valkyrie will now go up against a new Friday the 13th film and Confessions of a Shopaholic. Clark Woods, president of domestic distribution, had this to say: "When an opening became available for President's Day Weekend, we seized the opportunity. Moving into a big holiday weekend is the right move."
Let's hope there's still a right move to be made...

The story this is based on is so depressing and frustrating I really couldn't understand what the point was in basing a whole movie in it. Something about it is not very attractive. Now, add this guy who is such a freaky person and make him play a well intentioned Nazi (is there such a thing?). Maybe it's the tabloid shadow over a very sad and frustrating story. Brian, WTF? Go back to doing great movies.

Not to sound mean, but, really, there's no much harm done here. It's not like "Valkyrie" is the drama movie that the masses were expecting, and certainly not the critics.
Anyway.

Allow me to translate:
This movie is so bad, you'd expect Ed Wood to be behind the camera. Everyone is scratching their heads wondering what went wrong, and then it dawns on them all at once. "Oh Yeah, Tom Freaking Nutcase Cruise!"
The WORST faked German accent I have ever heard, and the distraction of his complete off his meds antics have tarnished this one right into the crapper.
Valkyrie? More like Ragnorak! (That's Norse)
Worst movie on Teegeak (That's Scientology)

just no need to rubbish a man who for 25 years has put his heart and soul into all his movies he has given a lot of people joy in watching him get involued and give 200 percent dedications to his roles.and maybe if you lost your negativety streak towards this very talented man you would see tom for the actor, person that he rearly is.

As far as fake accents or non-existent ones, normally I'm pissed off when such things exist in a period piece. However, I am reminded of Enemy at the Gates, which featured British actors playing Russians with British accents. While that grated me to no end, the end result was that I still enjoyed the movie and could look past it. If the movie is good, I'll forgive the accents or lack there of.

Gotta agree with the first comment; hard to see myself paying to watch a film about this failed mission.
I'm British and we do like to watch our historical, military failures; but preferably ones that end with red-coated soldiers charging headlong toward their doom on a horse with their sabre held aloft, glinting in the midday sun. Valkyrie just looks dour.
Do like Cruise though.

I think the problem is Brian Singer, besides The Usual Suspects what has he done that was all that great?

What has Brian Singer done aside from Usual Suspects? Is that a serious question? The real problem here isn't Singer, it is Cruise, and everyone knows it. The so-called most powerful man in Hollywood is quickly becoming box-office poison and has nobody but himself and his "religion" to blame for it.
People are starting to answer the sound of his name with eye-rolling and sighs (far from the oohs and ahhs of yesteryear) because he has become a clown to the rest of the world. Aside from Scientologists (even the ones who pretend to be Joe Schmoe on messageboards to rouse public support...talk about your USUAL SUSPECTS lol), there aren't too many people with anything that positive to say about Tom Cruise's behavior and antics. I feel sorry for Singer for getting drug down with this headcase who doesn't believe in mental health (which is rather ironic).

I find it silly that everyone critizes his thinly used German accent when the rest of the cast are all British sounding subjects of her majesty! For that matter why did Cruise even bother with an accent if no one else was going to try?

Only Cruise box office performance is attacked but other major actors and actresses not so good films at the box office are ignored like Clooney,Kidman,Swank,Zelwegger,Depp,Hanks, even Pitt's western movie was not a hit.
I guess only Tom Cruise has the highest and different standard in Hollywood. I see so much biased and jealousy for this powerful talented man who has it all.

If you watch a movie for the accent then rent the German Valkyrie movie. Im onboard this movie for the stellar acting, intelligent suspenseful script and a huge moment in history. Since when did a celeb rag editor like Roger Friedman become a movie expert? Where's Roger Ebert the film critic? Its a combo of lack of news and time to make fun of Cruise(again----yawn). Entertainment news said Valkyrie just wrapped up finishing the film this March and I wont say more because its a spoiler for the film. I have the script along with other fans and its an amazing goosebump ride of a historical film. Real movie critics love it.
