Kim Cattrall Lets Loose Some 'Sex and the City' Secrets
Filed under: Comedy, Drama, Romance, RumorMonger
For the most part, buzz about Sex and the City has come from crazy rumors, leaked pictures, and some really cryptic chatter from Sarah Jessica Parker about just what happens with her character and Mr. Big. Now Kim Cattrall, also known as the sexy sexpert Samantha, is getting into it with her own revelations about just what happens when the four friends hit the big screen. According to what's up on MSNBC, I'm starting to wonder just how much this film is going to resemble its television start, and whether it will bring each character to new levels, or just stray too far from what the HBO series laid out.Head after the jump to hear what she has to say. Of course, "secrets" means "spoilers," so proceed with caution. To be fair, there aren't specific plot details in what she says, but rather some twists in store for her character and the world of Sex and the City.
So, Cattrall told Access Hollywood: "Her [Samantha's] location is now on another coast, so there's a lot of beige and sunshine, the 'Golden-Kind-of-Girl' feeling to it, which my hair and makeup team had a ball with! There's a lot of suntan lotion, a lot of sparkly stuff, which Samantha revels in."
Well, this certainly makes sense within the realm of the ending -- Samantha is with Smith, who is becoming a big movie star. Naturally, if she stuck with him, she'd be on her way to LA. It also fits into that whole swimsuit scene in the trailer. That being said, there's a few problems with this. Long-distance friendship was a huge sticky point in the end of the series. So, while it makes sense, it's hardly the best layout for showing their interconnected friendships. (Is this due to all those rumored issues between cast members?)
But more importantly: once again, it has SaTC make a strong, successful and professional character give up huge things for love. Charlotte gave up her gallery. Miranda repeatedly was chastised and called "negative" or "selfish" whether she didn't want a baby, or wanted to remain in the city, until she gave it all up work commutes, motherhood, and mother-in-law care in Brooklyn. Carrie gave up her column and writing (suggested by her leaving her laptop home) for The Russian -- but luckily that ended pretty quickly. Now Samantha gives up her life and the business she has built in NYC to move to LA?
I've forgiven a lot for this show and these characters, but this is just getting ridiculous. Compromises are always made in relationships, but these compromises, cast-wide, are sending one heck of a disappointing message.

I don't really see how her implying she might be in LA means that she has given up everything for love. I think I will wait til the movie comes out to judge it. Also, when the women in S&tC gave up things for men, they always regretted it, learned from it, and tried to regain their identities- a good lesson for all of us.

Liz, clearly she gave up her PR business to move to LA, right? Since all her clients are on the east coast?
SATC is not reality in any way, shape or form. Big swore he'd never marry again. It's not consistent and it's non-nonsensical.

Agreed, although in Big's defense: I know a man who said he would never marry. Soon after, started dating a girl he said he didn't want to date. In less than 6 months from the proclamation of no-marriage, he was engaged to her. So, that part I could buy. :)

The main plot dynamic is that they get together for lunch then shop for bags, shoes, clothes. After that they get together for lunch and shop for bags, shoes and clothes. After that they get together for lunch and shop for bags, shoes and clothes. After that they get together for lunch and shop for bags, shoes and clothes. Suddenly one of them realises they've got the last Manalo Blanhik rabbit skinned odour eaters in Manhatten and is so excited they let out a little walnut sized pooh!

I would like to see the characters stay successful career focused women. If they have to drop their current lives I'm open to marriage and motherhood twists as long as the ladies are still shopping, gossiping, partying and eating! Kristen Davis sounds off about eating on a recent article stating "crazy dieting or starving themselves was never on the menu". To be fair, I'm sure Samantha could do well opening a West Coast version of her business.
But that said, good point about everyone else (Miranda especially) having to sacrifice when the guys don't.

Saw the movie today. It was a complete disappointment. The only saving grace for me was the fact that I had not yet watched the special features on the last DVD of the series, and I was able to wash the vomit-tasting script of the movie from my mouth with the various sweet morsels of fun repeated in this review of the HBO series itself.
If you loved the series and thought to yourself, how are they going to top this? Should I see it? Let me just say - don't do it. You will not only lose your lunch. You will get that awful vomity taste in your mouth that could spoil your appetite for what was great about the series in the first place.
A hyper dramatically amateur accident which one can only say is similar to what happened when Terms of Endearment was followed up with a sequel. Same cast. Same storyline. Same idea. Just a terrible, terrible script and a rudely unfortunate movie. That fits this attempt at a motion picture to a T.
Avoid this if you have any love for the series, and you'll still have the magic you once held for this amazing series. See it, and you could realize that 'yes', someone could indeed ruin a good thing.
And someone has.
