Next 'Prince of Persia' Rumor: Jake Gyllenhaal
Filed under: Action, Casting, RumorMonger, Games and Game Movies
I really dug Orlando Bloom in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, then recoiled in horror at his work in Pirates. Okay, not horror, but I was completely disappointed and wished the entire time that Will Turner would get killed and Sparrow would get Swann. When you're rooting for the womanizer, even when he's played by Johnny Depp, you know something is off. So, I wasn't really into the idea of him as the Prince of Persia, and was relieved to hear that he was out of the picture. Who's the next big name to make waves?Latino Review says that Jake Gyllenhaal has been offered the lead role in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Now, if the site is to be believed, this will be the best film of all time. Well, the most visually appealing, that is. Okay, just something immensely appealing to my movie-fan heart. It's not just the Jake -- they say that lots of parkour is involved as well. (If David Belle got involved too...)
But seriously -- parkour is beautiful, and immensely great to watch on film -- unless it's being done by a bad guy who out-cools James Bond. And Gyllenhaal, he's got the acting chops and the body, and he'd also be a solid choice to make the film desirable to a larger audience. However, LR does note that Jake's messed up his ankle playing basketball, so he'd have to mend up first before taking on the role that starts this summer in Morocco. (Mend, please mend!)
I've said my piece, but what do you think?
UPDATE: Cinematical has talked with a Disney rep who would not deny nor confirm this rumor. Their "you'll see soon enough" stance leads us to believe there might be some truth here. Oh, and expect both leads to be announced at the same time.

In the midst of all the talk about changing the ethnicity of the characters in "21", wouldn't it be prudent to look for someone who looks like they might actually be Persian (ie. from Iran). How about Heroes' Sendhil Ramamurthy (who is Indian). I mean, he actually looks like he's from that side of the planet.

I agree...just because big names like Bloom and Gyllenhaal have box office draw doesn't mean they should be the only casting options especially for a film where the lead is Persian...let's get some new blood - It seems evident that Bruckheimer and rest of Hollywood couldn't give shit about the quality of there films just that they get $$, which I understand (it is a business after all)...it's just disappointing really and a little insulting.

This might not be that bad. But I hope the princess they cast isn't white too. She's supposed to be Indian.

I agree with techstar25, I always picture Sendhil Ramamurthy as the lead in this role he seems to fit the best more than any other I have seen on the net, even including the real prince of persia. My next would be Bloom but Jake Gyllenhaal thats wackkk (maybe spiderman 4), I really hope this is a good movie because the game was great already, but seeing Jake Gyllenhaal as the leads kinda is ruining it for me.

Even without all of the controversy over "21", it still would be better to cast someone who at least looks Persian, instead of Jake Gyllenhaal. Orlando Bloom would be an even worse choice.

I'm agreed with everyone else... The actor playing the prince of Persia should look Persian. Does that sound obvious? Because it should be.

Jake and Orlando does not fit in this promising for another next big thing by Disney. Their looks and acting are misfires and both men are not box office draws at all. Their movies have been flopping lately.

Disney hiring Bloom and Jakey for their next big thing shows how Hollywood can be so stupid at times. Their acting and looks are misfires for this project and this 2 are box office poison with their films tanking. i.e. Zodiac,Jarhead and Rendition for Jakey and Elizabethtown and Kingdom of Heaven for Bloom.

Hi!
I would like to show you one new actor who looks much better than Bloom and Jake, sorry for that but I am a big fan of that game and I am looking forward to see it on the big screen, so I would like the movie Prince to look the same as the game Prince. So, I found this site: www.saygonvillage.com
This actor looks great and he created the Prince character for all three parts of the game, even with the costumes - they are real!
He looks better than the Prince from the game, see for yourselves

Mia, Jake G. is not box office poison. He is an extremely talented actor who has done great work in Donnie Darko, The Good Girl, Jarhead, Brokeback Mountain, Zodiac. Also, Jarhead did fine that the BO it certainly wasn't a failure and Zodiac got excellent reviews. There were lots of reasons Zodiac didn't do well but it wasn't just because of Jake and the same can be said about Rendition.

I originally wanted David belle to play the main roll, but if he could play the stunt double that would be good enough for me. this movie has some strong potential
