New, Official 'Hancock' Photo

In a summer full of old and new superheroes, one guy has been kinda flying under the radar. The big film arriving this year for Fourth of July weekend doesn't involve any giant f**king robots and it's one we haven't heard much about. USA Today just posted a sneak peek at Hancock; the new Will Smith flick directed by the very talented Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom). Above you will see the brand new image that went along with their story which adds to the other bits and pieces floating around the net (check out our full Hancock gallery below). A bunch of set photos hit awhile back, there was a teaser trailer and a poster, but that's been about it as far as Hancock goes. It's sorta like the huge summer film no one is talking about.
Hancock follows a superhero who's fallen on hard times. As USA Today points out, "He hates his job, loves his booze and would be pulled over for flying under the influence -- if anyone could catch him after he has plowed through a building or traffic sign." Eventually, Hancock seeks help from a PR specialist (Jason Bateman), but in turn starts falling for his wife (Charlize Theron). The first trailer gave the film a very fun, comedic look, though I have a feeling there's definitely some larger, more serious issues going on inside this storyline (I remember the words "emotional affair" popping up one or two times late last year when Hancock was filming).
I really dig Berg, and Will Smith is always a comforting person to watch on screen, so I have good feelings about Hancock. I just wish they'd show us a tad more of it. Hancock hits theaters on July 2.

At last, a spoiler-free advertising campaign!
I've had enough Iron Man, Batman, Indy, and Hulk clips and BTS action to tide me over for the entire summer.

I don't understand how people are so anti-new heroes in movies.
I have a friend who is really into graphic novels and superheroes and comix and such, but he really doesn't want to see this. Sounds like the same is true of Robin above, at least to some degree.
But why? Why the elitism about heroes, that they must be sourced back to comic roots? Nothing against those sorts of superheroes at ALL, but when there's an honest attempt at a new hero (nothing like Superhero Movie or silly heroes like that) there should at least be SOME intrigue. Especially when it involves three very solid people - Smith, Berg, Bateman (plus, the two co-writers seem to have decent track records).

You know, Peter Berg and our three main actors keep saying how this isn't just typical superhero mumbo jumbo, and I really hope it isn't, because this film looks pretty interesting. I'm really looking forward to this.
