A Behind-the-Scenes Peek at 'Twilight'
Filed under: Romance, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Movie Marketing, Trailers and Clips
I have never been all that keen to read Stephenie Meyer's vampire romance, Twilight. That is probably because I'm just a little out of the prescribed age range, plus, I'll always be an Anne Rice girl at heart. So like a lot of other people, I'll just catch the movie. Back in February, Monika brought us the first photo from the film set, and now ET Online has behind-the-scene video and interviews with cast members Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Nikki Reed.
In Twilight, Stewart stars as Bella, a young girl who moves to a dreary, rainy town and finds herself drawn to her mysterious (and plasma-challenged) classmate, Edward (Pattinson). The two begin to fall in love, and if all those years devouring anything remotely 'vampy' have taught me anything, it's that there probably won't be a happy ending for these two. When a coven of vampires that doesn't follow Edward's example of eating only wildlife comes through town, Edward and his 'family' band together to protect Bella.
Twilight has been filming on location in Portland, Oregon since February, and the production is scheduled to finish shooting later this month. Fans have had mixed reactions to the film (mainly over casting), but Summit is hoping that they can get enough of them into theaters for at least two more installments of the series. Twilight is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 12th. Twilight fans, sound off with your thoughts on the casting, and what you hope to see them do with the film.

Well I think the two leads are just perfect. Robert Pattinson has been critisied for not being good looking enough. Its true he isn't the most handsome young actor today but he definately has the 'other worldly' quality, slightly off beat that works very well for being a vampire in this movie. He also has great intensity in his work which is what is called for in the story. I personally would have been very disappointed in a pretty boy with not depth and acting talent. Kristen is of course a perfect Bella and I haven't heard any compliants about her casting.
My only beef would be the casting of Jacob which is crutial to the stories. I hope the actor proves me wrong and has the depth to pull this off this imporant role in the novels. Also in the books he grows to 6.7 feet tall. Obviously this part will have to be re-written.

I think the two leads are great too. Jacob is a good cast for Twilight but as for New Moon and the rest of the books they need someone one older and much taller. If they stop at just the first book it will be a tragedy. All the books are great and they will all be great movies. Far better than all the Harry Potter movies.

I love the cast for Twilight. I think the casting directors know what they are doing and with Catherine Hardwicke at the helm the movie will rock.

while i understand what you mean about jacob, i don't think you need to worry about him being tall enough just yet. remember, he doesn't reach 6'7" until new moon. and the times we see him in twilight he's still very much a boy - not terribly tall yet. [except for the prom scene, where he's 6'2" if i remember correctly.]
so like i said, your concerns are understandable, but i don't think you need worry about height just yet - especially with the "magic of television" and what not =)

I completely agree!! He is perfect for Edward, not what I pictured when reading the book BUT I disagree with the people who say he's not handsome enough or whatever for the part. I happen to think he is exceptionally handsome and a VERY good choice for the part. He has an amazing acting ability and his face is very much that of a vampires. He shows so much feeling through his eyes alone that you can really feel edward's pain and affliction through them. That to me is exceptional when you can know what they are feeling without them saying a word, Robert has that ability. And Bella? Kristen is almost EXACTLY what I pictures her to be. I as well am a bit worried about the actor chosen for Jacob, not that he may not be a good actor but he is very obviously NOT a big enough guy. Other than that I think the movie is going to be incredible just as the book and I cannot wait to see it!!!

You want to know how massive the fanbase of Twilight? One blog can command 30,000 unique visitors per day., that's one blog only. There are hundreds. To those who still assume this is a B-movie and a boring book turned into a movie not worth watching for, you're in for a big surprise.

Yes, I definitely agree. The Twilight books are far, far from being boring, and its seriously going to give Harry Potter a run for its money -- 'Eclipse' (book 3) actually dislodged 'HP Deathly Hollows' from its number one spot when it came out late last year. While both literary works may be in the 'fantasy' genre, they are quite different from one another. I absolutely loved Harry Potter, but the Twilight series is simply riveting and utterly addicting. And yes, the large fan base would definitely attest to this fact. I think the movie will live up to all the avid Twilight readers' expectations, big time. :)

I think that all roles have been casted perfectly, at first I had my doubts about Robert Pattinson, but then I saw some of his movies and I changed my mind. Some thing about the film I'm really worried about if they are going to cut some scenes from the book. Other than that I think 'Twilight' is in great hands!

Yes! People who haven't read the book do not understand how huge Twilight's fanbase is. People like me are so crazy obssessed that we are commenting on everything Twilight! I love the characters sooooo much, at first I was very skeptical about Edward (robert) but I think I trust he will do a great job! And Bella-she's Perfect! I couldn't have asked for anything better! I am soo excited for this movie! I even got a job so I can pay to go to the Premier in December! Oh, and I KNOW that Bella and Edward will have there happy ending, it won't end like typical 'vampy' stuff. PEACE, LOVE, AND EDWARD!

I think everyone that was picked for this movie will be fabulous. I originally wasn't too keen on Kristen or Robert, but after adjusting to them in the roles, I have complete faith in both of them. Of course nobody will be perfect... Bella and Edward are fictional after all! Both Robert and Kristen, and Taylor for Jacob were chosen for their acting abilities, and I think they will all be wonderful. I especially can't wait to see Rob and Kristen on screen together. Much love to the entire cast!

I think that just about everyone has been casted perfectly. I mean if you think about it, everyone has their own image of what each character should look like, so of course they aren't all going to be PERFECT, and I think that's just something that we are going to have to live with.
Robert was not at all what I had in mind for Edward, but seeing the pictures and interviews with him has made me truly believe that he IS Edward Cullen. He is very handsome, and I think that they made a good choice.
Kristen I think is a perfect Bella. She's not like movie star gorgeous, but gorgeous in another way. A Bella way. :)
A lot of people think that Taylor Lautner was not a good choice as Jake because as the books go on, he is supposed to be bigger. But I think what a lot of people forget is the in Twilight, Jake is only 15. So of course, he's not going to be a huge buffed guy. I think that when/if they make a sequel, he can get in shape for the role. In my opinion, he's a great Jacob.
As for everyone else, they might not have been exactly what I had envisioned, but they come pretty close! I think that this movie is going to be a box office hit, and I can't wait to see it!

Twilight is huge, and I think people are just starting to realize the fan base that this series has. The cast has already mentioned their surprise at the following, and as someone above said, the blog sites are updated several times daily. Just ask Larry from MTV, he'll tell you!

At first, I was very worried about the movie because of other book adaptions I have seen, but as I saw photos and behind the scenes videos I began to get so excited. The special effects (that I saw on some videos) are far better than I imagined, and the cast seems to be taking it all seriously and it just is begininng to look awesome! I have much higher hopes now than I did when I first heard the news. Thanks to the twilight lexicon for directing me here!
