Warner Bros. Posts Best 'Speed Racer' Trailer Yet

If you're at all looking forward to Speed Racer, or if you're skeptical about it, you owe it to yourself to check out the new international trailer that Warner Bros. has posted on the film's official website. It's the best glimpse at the film we've gotten to date, which is not to say it gives a lot away -- it simply gives a more lucid look at Speed Racer's feel and aesthetic, over two minutes long and not obfuscated by a barrage of quick cuts. We do get to see a wider array of supporting players, in case some people consider that a spoiler.
The most exciting thing, for me, is that the juice doesn't seem to all be in the ad campaign: the more I see of the Wachowskis' new creation, the more genuinely unique it looks. In terms of the trailer mechanics, this one is about as conventional and un-flashy as it gets, and it still veritably explodes off the screen. Better yet, the dialogue sounds simple, corny, and right on the money. Despite the embittered Wachowski naysayers, I think Speed Racer is going to be a phenomenon, and maybe, when the dust settles, the most influential film of 2008. I mean look at it -- just look at it. Absolutely breathtaking.

Alright, the first couple trailers made the film seem truly aimed towards kids....but this one is badass. The Wachowski's have seemed liek hacks for quite some time due to the Matrix sequels, but this could be the one to bring it back. The trailer gives a real feel for the style they're shooting for and I'm off the fence now - I'm gonna check this one out.

I completely agree with you. It just looks like they've packed as much entertainment as they could into this thing. I can't wait to grab a popcorn and a Coke and enjoy the hell out of myself. I know it ain't for everyone, but I can't wait for it.
Still haven't heard any of Michael Giacchino's score. I wonder what that'll sound like. I've enjoyed a lot of his work before, especially on "Lost" and "Ratatouille."

I'm predicting this movie will open with about $30MM and the #1 spot, but it will gross less than $100MM and be considered a flop.

The blog is a joke. Right? You can't be serious. That trailer was horrible! I really wonder how far we've slipped as a society when people watch something that bad and think it might be worth seeing.

So, when someone has a different opinion about a movie trailer than you do, it signals a decline in society? Whoah, that's heavy.

JG, I'm pointing out this trailer is a prime example of everything bad in movies today. A few films have stood out so far but when people get all jazzed over banal junk like this,Indiana Jones 11 and the rest of the summer slate
I have to wonder how far have we slipped as a society. Juvenile b-movie bilge like The Departed (a remake of a better Korean film that still wasn't a good film) and No Country for Old Men win oscars as best picture. Simplistic films like Michael Clayton get noms and nods. What won't people watch? Prom Night and Street Kings led this weekend's box office, for god's sake! Followed by the Hallmark Hall of Fame Presentation of "21." Look at the entire top 10! Is there anything worth paying money to see? Smart People? Maybe but that's a reach.

So much anger...
Anyway, Infernal Affairs was from Hong Kong, not Korea. Should I take from your confusion that you're a crazy racist who thinks all Asian people look alike and that your misguided post and views clearly reflect the downfall of society? No, that would be overreacting and unreasonable crazy-talk.
I think the movie and the trailer look dumb, but I don't think it's the apocalypse.

i agree with YFTT, that trailer wasn't any better than any of the others we've seen so far. personally, i think they've packed too much into the frame. i find myself almost going into a seizure and not being able to really follow anything.
most influential film of 2008? i doubt that.

I can't keep getting excited for movies that are visually stunning, yet have garbage dialogue and a crappy premise. I've been burned too many times (I'm looking at you Matrix Trilogy). I'll skip this one for sure.

RIFE WITH SPOILERS. Not just "a wider array of supporting players." When I turned it off, I'd already seen every character.
We are so used to trailers that give the whole story away, a trailer that just gives MOST of the story away isn't considered "spoiler" any more. :(
