More Images from M. Night Shyamalan's 'The Happening'

What I'm about to say might shock you ... ready? I still think M. Night Shyamalan is a pretty good director. Okay, so he may have gone off the rails with Lady in the Water, but everyone is allowed a few stinkers, right? Hopefully things will start to turn around for him with The Happening. JoBlo now has new stills from his M. Night's 'end of the world' drama, and for those of you who like to be surprised, don't worry, they're spoiler-free. In fact, most of them look like they came straight from the trailer. Most of the details have been kept under lock and key, but we did get some spoilers back in August (read at your own risk). What we do know for sure is that the story centers on an estranged couple (Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel) who band together to save their family during an environmental crisis (remember the news story about the disappearing bees?). That old chestnut even makes an appearance in the narrative. Joining Wahlberg and Deschanel in the cast are John Leguizamo and Spencer Breslin (star of The Shaggy Dog and brother to Abigail) as fellow survivors.
Lord knows Shyamalan needs all the help he can get in halting his growing reputation as a hack who's gotten too 'big for his britches.' Critics already have the daggers out for this movie, and plenty of people are just waiting for the film to fail. If it does, it won't just be the end of humanity in The Happening, it could be the end of Shyamalan's career.
In the hopes of adding some extra spookiness to its opening day, The Happening will arrive in theaters on Friday, June 13th.

I'm still a fan too. Here's hoping this one gives him the boost he needs. (But even if it doesn't, I'll still be a fan!)

i'm a huge fan too. he's an extremely talented and original man. there are a lot more fans than people think. the dislike for shyamalan movies is limited to a ery vocal minority... primarily an internet minority. it's become "cool" to dislike his movies and to call him "egotistical" just like it's "cool" to dislike tom cruise or britney spears.

I couldn't agree more. His work is extremely thought provoking and original. I actually have enjoyed all of his films and this looks to be one of his best ones to date.

Why is it that Spencer Breslin who doesnt appear in any of the trailers or promo pics always gets mentioned while poor Ashlyn Sanchez (the little dark haired girl) whose in all the trailers and three of the promos doesnt. It's not fair Spencer's part is extremely small and Ashlyn is in almost the whole movie.

I'm psyched to catch this release. Been noticing a few ImprovEverywhere styled re-enactments popping up around the place. This one from Sydney got some classic "shock" reactions:
