Most of us haven't even seen Iron Man yet (though it's possibly just me -- everyone on my MySpace and Facebook is horrified I haven't, and it wasn't even midnight in my time zone), and already they're planning the sequel. Iron Man Cinematical reviews are here and here.Brad Grey, head honcho over at Paramount, told Entertainment Tonight that if all went as hoped with the first movie, the sequel will come out this very week in 2010. (I just saw into the future ... and I'm pretty much typing this same post with the third installment in 2012.) Since it doesn't look like Iron Man is going to be a disaster at the box office, I think it's safe to say you can start counting down to 2010.
Hopefully, as much care and attention will be lavished on the sequel -- again, I haven't seen it yet, but all appearances and reviews suggest that they really knocked it out of the park. It would be awesome if it surpassed X2: X-Men United, which I think is the best superhero sequel yet. (Though maybe your opinion leans more towards Spider-Man 2.)
Now would be a good time for you well-read Iron Man fans to jump in with where you want the sequel to go. (Or, if you're feeling mean, you can also start screaming "sell out!" or something along those lines.) I wish I could throw in a story suggestion here, but I can't ... I'm still waiting to see it! You should feel really bad for me.

I just seen Iron Man and it was AWESOME! I really hope that the is a sequel. Downey has not found a calling up until now. THIS IS HIS ROLE. HE CAN TAKE THIS AS FAR AS HE WANTS TO GO!!!! I definiately recommend this movie. You will be surprised at how great Downey is, there is a chemistry between him and Peltrow. I loved it, to say the least. The effects were outstanding. Just wait until you see it.

BEST superhero movie EVER! Fantastic. I can't say enough to emphasize how good this movie is. The inclusion of SHIELD and all the little touches that made it so great. Of course I'm a comic geek, a computer geek, and a big fan of Favreau, so I may be biased...
Next movie, Tony's alcoholism takes over and after he flys drunkenly through New York taking out a few buildings and such, Jim Rhoades has to step in and become "War Machine". I'll let Jon handle it from there!

I've been an Iron Man fan for 25 years and...yes...this is the correct answer.

This movie was awesome. I imagine the sequel will be even better now that the origin story is out of the way and Stark can become an alcoholic. The nods to War Machine and SHIELD were awesome, though I'm not sure SHIELD will factor into Iron Man 2 much. Of course it'll certainly factor into The Avengers. Too bad we won't be getting The Avengers until at least 2012. Faverau and Downey are booked doing Iron Man flicks until then. Maybe they can cram the shooting in somewhere between them.

Does Batman Begins count as a sequel? If not then I agree X2 is the best movie sequel. Sorry I hate the spider-man movies. This movie looks awesome...best actor contender this awards season?

If I could order a ticket for IM2 right now, I probably would. Only because ticket prices will probably be a bit higher in two years.
Hey, maybe there's a new revenue stream for the studios!! You guys want a Spider-Man 4?? Fine. Buy your tickets NOW and we'll use the money to make it!

I saw Iron Man last night and it was fantastic. I'm thinking with the sequel it could go towards The Mandarin which I've heard was originally supposed to be the villain in this one.
Of course with the hints towards Rhodey and War Machine I'm thinking it will more so focus on the time period where Stark becomes unfit to be Iron Man and Rhodey takes over the suit for awhile, but because Marvel probably isn't about to make a movie on the Secret Wars they might possibly introduce someone like Crimson Dynamo and focus more so on the relationship between Rhodey and Stark as Rhodey goes crazy.
But of course this is all speculation, and the appearance of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury after the final credits could be pointing towards an Avengers tie-in, or maybe the leading up to of the Civil War or the Secret Wars since Marvel can now put multiple heroes in their movies and actually create a sense of the Marvel Universe instead of the Marvel Universes.
