'Gossip Girl' Creator is Developing a New 'X-Men' Script
Filed under: RumorMonger, Scripts, Newsstand, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
We're already getting a bigger taste of Wolverine with X-Men Origins, and Magneto is also on the way, but now it looks like we're getting another new group picture. Black Book Magazine reportedly spoke with Gossip Girl creator Josh Schwartz, who says he's developing a prequel, but it isn't one like Origins. (What's with the desire for all these X-Men prequels!?)Schwartz says: "I'm very well aware that I'll be bludgeoned by purists, but I love its mythology, and it comes with a pretty hefty paycheck." His idea for this whole affair is to follow a teen who attends the Xavier Institute. He says he won't be adding any new characters, so the question becomes: Which lucky X-Men character will Schwartz focus on? The writer goes on to diss The Incredible Hulk, saying that it "looks like it's going to be terrible. And why does he look like he's fighting against the monster from Cloverfield?" So, if he can pull this off to his tastes, it should be, at the very least, better than Hulk.
Even after the disappointment of the latest X-Men movie, I'd love to see another movie pop up with more than just Wolverine or Magneto. Unlike most action or geek fare movies, where I fall for the movie as a whole, I really dig a lot of the characters in X-Men and the way the actors portray them. I've spoken before about how much Hugh Jackman rocks as Wolverine, but there's also Magneto, Professor X, Mystique, and my other big favorite -- Anna Paquin's Rogue. But this will be something entirely different, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's a whole different set of actors. So, does this sound good to you, and which character should Schwartz be focusing on?

I'm not so interested in a prequel, I'd rather see the series continue with new characters, but I'm not sure fans will embrace an X-Men movie without Wolverine and co. And I doubt Fox are going to be able to line up all the actors again for a sequel.
Josh Schwartz is an interesting choice to write this. I don't think Gossip Girl is a far representation of what he can do, as I believe Stephanie Savage is actually more involved in that show then he is. Chuck, his show on NBC, is awesome, and anybody who's seen his work and that and The O.C know that he's a comic book fan. It'll be interesting to see what he comes up with.

I believe he's writing the long-rumored 'Young X-Men'-style flick that will star the students rather than the instructors. If that's the case, his pedigree seems to fit. It would just be teens with powers. Probably characters with lower profiles, though they could certainly use cameos from Professor X and the like. Iceman, Kitty, and Rogue could certainly take part.

This guy sounds like a Class A enema hose who's mainly in it for the money. Great. The A&F Gossip Girl bitches (both male and female) with superpowers. No thanks. I think I'll sit at home and watch my Daredevil and Ghost Rider dvds instead.

anna paquin as rogue was good? shes not a bad actress but the producers decisions to kill off the characters and not even include gambit in the damn movie terrible. rogue can fly and has super strength yet she showed one lousy power (her worst one) in 3 movies. how do u make 3 movies and have no advancement. everytime they made a new xmen it made me hate the series even more. they went nowhere and when u really think about it the cartoons are even better.
say what u want but as of now sin city/300 stands as the best comicbook/video game to movie transfer.
now spidey boys will come and defend that but that 3rd movie was a piece of junk. that movie lost all credibility whe tobey maguire was walking down the street like he was in a disco. dumbest scene they could have ever put in a superhero movie. that scene gave smallville more credibility with their cast aways being knocked out when clark does something

This is worrisome. I tried watching Gossip girl for a glimpse of Matthew Settle..so love him as Capt.Spears in Band of Brothers but I had to quit because the show is really garbage. Im more curious what's happening with WB and Maguire's production on Robotech the movie?

I dont mind if they focus on the x-Men (instructors) but i dont want them to focus so much on the school other than for it being a base of operations. it would be nice if they show some more characters maybe with like some throw back style... Make the movie set in the early eighties give the team the original suits not this black leather crap that they think is so cool. I think to recreate a time period would make it unique. (give the movie some campyness it is a comic book afterall) I would like to see storm, cyclops, wolverine, beast, jean grey, Gambit, rogue, archangel, maybe itroduce my sinister and apocalypse they are some pretty sweet bad guys. They could focus on angel and archangel if they wanted to base it around one character.
as for rogue she could fly and was really strong because she permenantly stole ms. marvels powers this being after she joins the xmen. the movies however are timed when she first joins, rightfully she doesn't have thoes abilities yet. i the new movie they could start fresh and asume that that already happened, .

i'll pass on an x-men movie given to us by the same guy who gave us the garbage that is gossip girl and the o.c.
i'd be embarrassed if those were the prominent credits on my resume.
movies and tv shows about over privileged, self centered teenagers are for narcissistic 15 year old girls.

He can rip on the iffy-looking Incredible Hulk all he wants, but it's still going to be better than anything he's done.
