'The Avengers' Set for July, 2011!

Folks expected a huge opening take for Iron Man, but $201 million worldwide? Damn. And doesn't it feel a whole lot better when a film that makes that kinda money actually deserves to make that kind of money? Anyway, as expected, Marvel went absolutely nutty over this news and, while announcing quarter one profits, took some time to give us tentative release dates for Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers. Marvel Entertainment will not release a film in 2009, but first up in 2010 will be Iron Man 2 on April 30. Two months later, on July 4, 2010, Thor will debut in theaters. So, like this summer, we'll be getting two Marvel flicks in 2010 -- and if Thor wants to claim fourth of July weekend, that film better know how to kick some serious ass. You don't jump on July 4th without knowing you have a set -- know what I mean?Similarly, in 2011, Marvel Entertainment will debut another two films. First, on May 6, 2011, we have The First Avenger: Captain America (new title I believe). Then, in July, the biggie -- The Avengers! There was no word of an Ant-Man film in there, though last we heard it was in development with Edgar Wright attached. Honestly, unless they push The Avengers to 2012, I don't see where Ant-Man could fit in. Additionally, I imagine we'll have to wait to see how well The Incredible Hulk does, seeing as they may want to sequel-ize that one too. Otherwise, Iron Man will be the only franchise to debut a sequel prior to an full-on Avengers flick.
Phew. Chime in, folks. What do you think about it all?

a big part of me wants the films to stay as separates, I really enjoyed Iron Man and it got me thinking. So with each of these single releases if one bombs does that hurt the main goal in 2011?
Also I'm nervous that they may want to fit to much into a single movie. X-Men pulled it off well with the multiple characters, but then you have Spiderman 3 (way to much crammed in one movie) and Fantastic Four (cheesy humor.)
Maybe I'm just being selfish, but I'm sure others feel the same way.
Also you have to wonder what the plot will be and what set of Avengers they would use. Also who would be on the opposite end, the Badoons, Korvac, Black Widow, "The Liberators" - or will they bring in characters from the other Marvel worlds like Venom or Magneto.
There is just so much to think about and this could sway any way.

I just hope they take the Ultimates route with this one. Having the Ultimate version of Nick Fury appear in Iron Man is a very good sign that this is their intention. Then Iron Man (and everyone else) can battle the Hulk, and Captain America's appearance in the 21st century can actually make sense!

I like the idea of superhero movies set in a somewhat reality. The only thing that makes me queasy about the Avengers movie is Thor. This goes intos the realm of gods and super-beings that seems out of place in the world just created by the Ironman movie. I could see Captain America, the Hulk in it, but some of the other superheroes just seem kitsch-y now-a-days.

I don't know, I like all that stuff. the thing that made me maddest about X3 was how they completely glossed over the space opera aspects of the story. I would like them to stick to the original "Oh crap we have to catch Loki or something" origin.
Ultimates would be okay though. What they really need to do is an Infinity Gauntlet movie, and give people zero context.

Personally after seeing Iron Man I can't wait. If MArvel can keep up with this level of quality (i guess well see with Hulk) then I'm all in for whatever they throw at us.
The Fury scene was great and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.
As for cramming in too much, who says it's all in the Avengers film? For all we know the Iron Man sequel will end with a lead into Avengers, with Captain America bridging any gaps to the Avengers film. (I'm thinking this even more with that fancy new title!)
So Excited!!!!

Except that, at least in the Ultimate universe, Nick Fury is based on Sam Jackson. So, it actually makes a lot of sense.

also, i think the statement was Marvel will not release a self-financed movie in 2009 which leaves room for a traditional licesne type of deal or something similar.

I'm all for it. If they make it a decent amalgam of the Marvel U and the Ultimate U, it can be good. Possibly. I don't like the title of "The First Avenger" cuz that's just not true and it's dumb-sounding. The Avengers are the ones who found Cap, so they'd have to do the whole "fish outta water" time change thing in telling the Steve Rogers story.

Well I've waited on this day my whole life and im only 14 lol.
But seriously I think if you keep the same actors you used in their seperate films it could be the biggest blockbuster event in history think about it Tobey Macguire, Robert Downey Jr. & Edward Norton all in the same flick what could be better! The only way I wouldnt go see if is if they didnt use the same actors that was always my biggest concern. I mean they already started it with Robert Downey Jr. having a cameo in The Incredible Hulk so its gonna be epic if they keep it up!! Plus with Samuel L. Jackson playing Nick Fury what could be better!!!!!!!

ya i think the avengers movie will be a great hit!. they just have to keep the same actors from all the other movies. i really hope they put spiderman in it, because spiderman is the coolest and i think that the movie will make more money with spiderman. and of course their gonna have hulk and iron man in it, especially at the end of iron man it gave big hint of the avengers. and they cant make the movie without captain america because he is like the heart of the avengers. i could live without thor though because all the "god" stuff is kind of weird. And i really hope they dont put ant man and that one wasp girl because they are both really lame.
