UPDATE: Check out all G.I. Joe images in our brand spanking new gallery!
Above: Lost star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Heavy Duty, who serves as the G.I. Joe Team's heavy ordnance specialist with a passion for classical guitars and Bach. He is described as being unafraid of any situation despite heavy enemy fire. (for a larger look, head over to Coming Soon).
Paramount has released a crop of new photos from the upcoming live-action G.I. Joe flick; most of which appear to be different from those that leaked online not long ago. This seems to be a pretty easy film to market -- there's, like, 250 characters to eventually show us, and so they may as well unveil them a little at a time. Still not crazy about this whole special-ops look, but what can you do. Who's not in this film? I'd love to list the entire cast (which also includes folks like Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller and Dennis Quaid), but I think my fingers will go numb. There's a lot of folks in this thing; trust me. After the jump, check out the three other photos, as well as a little bit of info via our good friend Mr. Wiki.
G.I. Joe is due out in theaters on August 7, 2009.

Said Taghmaoui as Breaker: Breaker's primary military specialty is Infantry. His specialized education includes Signal School, where he studied covert electronics and was involved with "Project Gamma." He is a qualified expert in the M-16, M-1911A1, and MAC-10 (Ingram). He also speaks seven languages. (Click on image for larger version, courtesy of Dark Horizons.)

Christopher Eccleston as Destro: Destro's key characteristics are his sense of honor, a calm demeanor, and love for Cobra's second-in-command, the Baroness. As a businessman, Destro is cutthroat and unyielding. He uses his own troops, the Iron Grenadiers, and hires mercenaries to stir up conflict in dangerous regions, then sells weapons to those armies. Continuing a tradition started by the first masked Destro, he will even sell to both sides of the same war. (Click on the image for a larger version, courtesy of IESB.)

Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow: Best known as the Cobra Commander's ninja bodyguard and assassin at times, he is the only member of the team to change sides several times, conflicted in loyalties between Cobra, G.I. Joe and his long relationship with his swordbrother Snake-Eyes. He usually wears a white uniform and mask. (Click on image for larger version, courtesy of Latino Review.)

Sienna Miller as The Baroness: Baroness serves as the COBRA Organization's intelligence officer and lieutenant to Cobra Commander. With long black hair, black rimmed glasses, and a black leather outfit, Baroness is a dark, sensual femme fatale whose beauty is matched only by her ruthlessness. In both comic and cartoon incarnations, she has romantic relationships with Destro. (Click image for larger version, couresy of IGN.)

Dennis Quaid as General Hawk: He is the commander of the G.I. Joe Team. Born in Denver, Colorado, he comes from a wealthy family whose influence enabled him to enroll in West Point where he graduated at the top of his class. He was even able to gain experience in the battlefield in several trouble spots. One description of him is that he is "keenly intelligent and perceptive and quite capable of totally selfless acts in support of his team-mates. An excellent leader!" Destro needs a silver head, that is all there is to say. Wasn't he more muscular too?

OK for the ppl who don't read the DDP comic, (yes I am a girl and I am cute).
1) Destro wears a silver mask b/c he comes from a family of arms dealers who do this to conceal their faces. The arms dealer thing was done long before any association with COBRA! (Sorry had to get the exclamation point in there) His son Alexander does as well. I don't know why he's not in said mask, but I hope that it makes an appearance very soon.
2) The Joe costumes look more like they do in the DDP comics . Also to me the changes look more realistic and safer. I mean would you want to go on a secret mission wearing yellow spandex and stick out? That basically says "Here I am! Shoot me-here!"
3) Before anyone gets all pissy, in the comic they do not go around shouting "YO JOE!!!" and "COBRA!!!" This is one thing that I hope doesn't make it into the film unless it's some sort of pre-fight thing, cause it's just ridiculous, even as much as I love the cartoon. And yes when you go back and watch it as an adult, you just sit and laugh you ass off.
XOXOX to all the fans. Hope beyond hope this is a good movie.

Well I'm a boy, and I'm cute too!
I'm not familiar with the DDP G.I. Joe comics, but I read Joe from back in the Marvel days. I'll miss the colorful uniforms (I guess they'd be costumes huh? Uniforms imply uniformity.) because for one thing it'll help differentiate between the good guys and the bad guys. I reflect unkindly back upon the Transformers movie when all those robots were rolling around on the screen and I couldn't tell who was who. Then again, Heavy Duty does look pretty tuff there. And the all black look did work out OK for the X-Men.

I kinda want to see this movie. The only thing's I'm disappointed/wary of? Destro looks normal (maybe something will happen to him in the film), and the Baroness doesn't look so frightening. There's no confidence behind Miller's eyes. I hope they can pull this off.

Destro will be wearing the mask, but not the whole time. At least in the beginning of the movie. It will eventually be a "permanent fixture" on his face. I think Eccleston will work out just fine for Destro. Yeah he doesn't have the "mass" as he did in the cartoon, but I still think he'll pull off the character.

I think it becomes hard to sell a guy with a silver face without the movie being, well, retarded. But that's partially, or mainly, why I think this movie is an awful idea as a whole. GI Joe works as a cartoon. I can't see it working as live action. The rules are different, and the absurdity of GI Joe won't translate well.
Prove me wrong, Hollywood, prove me wrong.
Jennifer, I do not believe you. But feel free to mail me a picture if you're in the NY/NJ or NC area!

I am also sort of disappointed about the "uniform uniforms", but can see the logic of these looking more "realistic".
Then again, one of the reasons the Joes were all dressed differently was because they came from different branches of the armed forces, and in real life, at a joint command everyone wears their "home uniform". Maybe when they aren't in the field the clothing will become more eclectic.

Coming from a hardcore Joe nerd...make that...fan since the first issue of the Marvel comic, I do have a few issues. In order of the pictures posted: Sankes Eyes looks great. No complaints. Scarlett looks alright. Ripcord is, um...an unimportant character. Heavy Duty is also unimportant and should just be Roadblock. Hawk looks like what Flint should (beret, grimace etc.) Duke was always the Boy Scout type, not a pretty-boy model. Destro could go either way (but without the mask and a few more muscles...not good). Breaker looks like he is from the future (and he better have his bubble gum!) Baroness looks accurate. And finally, when did Storm Shadow start using Clorox on his concert pianist/ mummy outfit? Sigh. I know this is not a new oppinion, but overall no, the uniforms do not look as they should. The different outfits are a huge part of each character's identity. I still read and enjoy the Joe comic to this day, so I am crossing my fingers that Hollywood does not make another travesty like the Transformers movie.
P.S. Man I wish the Cobra Commander part would have crossed Gary Oldman's desk.
