Finally! 'The Promotion' Trailer Has Arrived!

Just when I thought the day would end without a single bit of funny ... The Promotion trailer has finally arrived! You've probably heard us talk about this movie a good gazillion times already, but if you haven't, listen up: It's really good and stuff. Yes, a bunch of us here at Cinematical saw The Promotion when it premiered at SXSW in March and we absolutely fell in love with its characters, its story, its performances and its charm.
Written and directed by Steve Conrad (writer of The Pursuit of Happyness), The Promotion stars Seann William Scott and John C. Reilly as two guys who REALLY want to land the new managerial job at the supermarket across town. In fact, both will go to great lengths to get that job -- and, while the premise sounds sort of played, silly and uninteresting, the execution is wonderful. This is truly one of my favorite films of the year so far, and we hope you like it too. Moviefone just premiered the new trailer (see above), and they did a pretty good job setting the film up for you, tone and all. As I've said, it's Election set in a supermarket -- so when you watch the trailer, keep that in mind.
The Promotion hits theaters on June 6. Go see it!

I saw the film a screening in Chicago about a month ago, and I loved it too. Its definitely got a Weather Man vibe (given that Conrad wrote that too), but I feel like its the kind of movie the Weather Man aspired to be, but fell short of. Really funny, and actually kind of touching in the end. Not sure what appeal the trailer has, but it definitely is a tough sell, as its never really slapstick, and its never pushed pass the point of believablity.

We've discussed this a lot: It's a little bit like ELECTION, in that it's decpetively smart and dryly satirical, but this movie has a much softer disposition than Alexander Payne's (really brilliant) comedy.

Looks damn good. I don't see anything over the top or outrageously silly (though Reilly seems a bit broad). Best of all, the trailer doesn't convey the final result of the film.

I am saddened, because this does not strike me as particularly funny.
It seems like it's kind of going for the awkward vibe of The Office (and wasn't that Jenna Fischer as Seann William Scott's wife/girlfriend?), and failing. Still, I'll see this when I get the chance, but I've lowered my expectations considerably.
Trailers are definitely not the last word on a film's quality, though, so I'm hoping that remains true for The Promotion...

Well, I was delighted to see the trailer, to confirm that I didn't end up on the cutting room floor--that can happen. I read the voice of the narrator of the "be a better manager" course that Richard Wellner (Reilly) listens to for advice and encouragement. The film opens here in Chicago, where it was shot, on Friday. The clips Steve played for me at our recording sessions looked quite good--funny but with heart, like "Weather Man" and "Happyness"
