'Thor' Needs New Director, Hulk to Cameo in 'Iron Man 2'?

There's all sorts of madness going on at Marvel right now in the wake of Iron Man's ridiculous opening weekend. Marvel's Kevin Feige was promoted to God and now it's time to start looking toward the future. While we await the release of Marvel's second self-financed flick (The Incredible Hulk) later this summer, The Hollywood Reporter tells us Matthew Vaughn is no longer directing Thor (currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 4, 2010, not July 4 as previously reported -- unless HR made a typo). According to HR, Vaughn's holding deal expired. In the meantime, Marvel is waiting for a script polish from writer Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend). On what we should expect from Thor, Feige says, "It's very much a Marvel superhero story but against the backdrop of nothing you've seen before. " He then described the flick as a "period fantasy in the vein of The Lord of the Rings." Sounds pretty cool to me. Who do you think they should get to direct Thor? Heck, why not throw Peter Jackson on it -- I'm sure fans would freak over that one.
Additionally, and this is just a rumor right now, HR also claims that Hulk might be featured in Iron Man 2 (due out April 30, 2010). They don't go any further than that except to say we should expect cross-referencing in all these films now that Marvel has control over the movies its characters are in. However, one thing's NOT for sure right now -- and that's Robert Downey Jr.'s participation in the Iron Man sequel. He's signed on, but HR says Marvel may have to "sweeten the pot to reward the movie's star." Oh, they'll sweeten ... or else millions of fans will look to bring on a world of hurt.

ok...here we go again with marvel going crazy because of one movie making a bunch of money. This happened with spiderman and then daredevil, the punisher, ghost rider happened and also some films which can be argued about like X-Men 3, which i think was horrible, and Ang Lee's Hulk, which was awesome and people should really watch it again instead of saying "damn i just wanna see the hulk smash shit". Anyways, Thor? That movies is going to bomb. How can you base ideas about success for Thor from Iron Man, a character who is at the top of marvel popularity. Why a Thor movie when there should be a damn Gambit film. Thor's character should only be in an Avengers movie. History repeats itself. Calm down Marvel. Calm down.

The difference is with those flicks Marvel had to give up a lot of control as other companies were producing them. Now Marvel has full control as they are making the movies themselves.
And if Thor is even 1/3 the movie Iron Man was it will still rock!

It used to be these kinds of cameos scenes like the one in the new "Hulk" film would be left on the cutting room floor, and put there as an easter egg on the DVD. Now they are putting the easter egg IN the movie. A scene which will probobly add nothing to the plot of the film other then to go hey, RDJ is in the new Hulk film, playing the character he played in "Iron Man". Neat-o. Same goes with Hulk being in "Iron Man 2".

I can't tell if your excited about this or not. But for all we know the RDJ cameo might be integral to the plot. Or maybe he's there with something to do with The Avengers Initiative.
I'm all for connecting the movies and think it's what DC should have been doing for years.

I can't fathom Thor being anything less than Uwe Bollish.

If the fanboys would quiet down and think a minute...
It's because Marvel is producing their own flicks that they CAN do cross-over characters since they own everything. That's why you haven't seen any mention of any other DC character in Batman that wasn't part of the Batman saga. Same thing with Superman. It's like they exist in their own universes.
But as Nick Fury said (for those who stuck around past the credits) You're part of a bigger universe...
So that being said, I think they'll do a mashup of sorts, much like Iron Man and Wolverine. Ditch the hip boots and the gold circles costume, just like Wolvies spandex was given the wink, and do a more Ultimates version of Thor as a god who hangs out with bikers. That'd be cool.
And what's wrong with Hulk/Norton showing up in IM2? It will be for a good reason, not a gratuitous 'easter egg' but to set up The Avengers.
'nuff said.

I would love a Thor movie, but for me, the problem is that Thor's power level is suppose to off the charts. It presents the same problem that X-men's had with introducing Phoenix. I mean how do you show Thor having one of his beserker moments when he's using his power to whip up a hurricane that can literally destroy the United States. Yes, he's that powerful. The Hulk was hard enough. In brute force sense- the Hulk at full strength can beat Thor, but on power level , visually it will be hard to show Thor unless they decrease his power level. This was the issue when the first introduce his character into the Avenger by the way. That he was so powerful that whatever villain they would face, it was felt he could literally defeat them by himself- so why did he need a team? What I wish they would do is to introduce the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver and the second classic line of Avengers with characters like Ms Marvel and Hawkeye. Thor is just too big of a character from a comic book geek perspetive to do well.

I like The Ultimates Version of Thor where we didn't know if he was a God or some crazy with access to advanced technology.
That's the movie I want to see.

Portraying Blake having visions of his true identity would be the right way to start... Then have Loki show up in a Christopher Walken from Prophecy kind of way... triggering a full Thor manifestation (it could even be the emergence of all these new super powered beings that prompts Loki to come'a meddling).
Odin could even be the impetus to awaken Thor within Blake. The real challenge is to place a mythological character into today's setting (Ironman, Spiderman and Hulk were easier due to our acceptance of technology and modern science)... But there is a bit more of a challenge with Thor. However, there are alot of creative people out there that can pull this one off (I was dubious about Silver Surfer, but they pulled it off).
