Is Marty Scorsese Taking on Frank Sinatra?
It looks like Frank Sinatra's youngest daughter and film producer, Tina Sinatra, has let the cat out of the bag. While talking with Sun Media recently, she discussed a new biopic on the way, from Universal, that would focus on dear old Rat Pack Dad. She started by cryptically saying that the man who would take on the film was "the most prominent Italian-American filmmaker" in Hollywood. First, they guessed Coppola, and then Martin Scorsese. Later, she confirmed that it was, indeed, Marty. But according to Sinatra, this won't be a big gangster picture. The movie will show him innocent of true involvement with the Mafia: "I don't want him to be driving the getaway car. That would not be fair. But I trust him (Scorsese) implicitly." It seems that Scorsese is in "a reflective period and is willing to present the truth about her father." From the way Sinatra is talking about Marty's involvement, it sounds like he is in final negotiations, but hasn't yet signed.
Should this all get squared away and signed, it will be at least the sixth celebrity name added to Scorsese's roster in the last 4-5 years. There was Bob Dylan in 2005, then the Rolling Stones with Shine a Light, plus the upcoming George Harrison and Bob Marley docs, and The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt.
But what say you? Are you ready for Scorsese to take on Sinatra?

Don't we know a heck of a lot about Sinatra's life already? I think that it's way more than what we thought we knew about Ray Charles and Johnny Cash.
As to Scorcese, I'm not so sure I trust him not to go for the sensationalistic violence or gangster innuendo on a Sinatra biopic.

Right -- wasn't Scorsese going to do Tom Hanks as Dean Martin, Ray Liotta as Sinatra, Jim Carrey as Jerry Lewis...?

Firstly, I'm sorry to say that I haven't got the exact meaning of the whole movie. I'm still a little confused.
We may know something about Sinatra's life already. But for Ray Charles and Johnny Cash, it still remain much for us to seach and appreciate.
It was supposed to be one of the best biographies ever written.

No, Travolta was going to play Frank.
Liotta already played in an HBO biopic, "The Rat Pack."

Scorsese was going to adapt that Nick Tosches biography "Dino" years ago. It was supposed to be one of the greatest biographies ever written. I agree that the Dino movie would have been more interesting. On a stupider note, I actually had an e-interview with Tina Sinatra a few weeks ago, and I'm mad I didn't break this story myself!

I have to agree with John - we know too much about Sinatra and I have watched countless other TV movies about his life. I would expect a lot from a Scorsese biopic but after Ray and Walk The Line, any biopic on any other big-named celebrity is kind of saturated by now.

I personally would love to see what Marty would do with Frank's life. There is much more to him than the obvious gangster references. Marty did a terrific Howard Hughes film so he could be perfect for telling Frank's life.
