'Twilight' Update: New Poster, New Gallery and Funky Comic Strip!
Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Mystery & Suspense, Fandom, DIY/Filmmaking, Movie Marketing
Okay, I'm going to try to write this post without pissing off a gazillion people. See, our resident Twilight expert, Kim, is flying to France right now, and so I'm the lucky guy left to write about Twilight. And speaking of the biggest teen vampire film to hit the states since The Lost Boys, a brand new poster for Twilight has been released by Summit Entertainment. (You can check it out to the right and click to enlarge.) Additionally, we've decided that now is the time to introduce our official Twilight gallery (see below). Fans of the film should definitely save that gallery link and check back daily as we'll be adding more photos real soon. And there's more! CulturePulp's Mike Russell tipped us off to this super funky comic strip he created, which was inspired by a recent trip of his to the set of Twilight. The comic strip is supposed to compliment an article he wrote for The Los Angeles Times. The comic is a damn funny read, as Mike takes you through a scene where they're playing vampire baseball and running at 30mph. Don't know, but it sounds good.
Confession time! I've never read Twilight, and I have absolutely nothing against the book or its fans. However, the only thing that worries me about this film is Kristen Stewart. Hate me forever, but she always plays the disturbed, "I have several emotional issues that stem from my childhood" kinda gal. Not a bad thing, mind you, but I've never seen her give us an ounce of power, of energy, of anything, really.
So here's a question for you fans: Do you think Kristen Stewart is the right actress to play your beloved Isabella Swan? Have you seen her other films? (Or maybe Isabella is a really boring person, because then Stewart would be excellent in the role.

The only thing I've ever seen Kristen Stewart in is Panic Room, so I don't know, but I do find Bella dull. I'm here for the vampires.

I personally feel that Kristen is PERFECT for the role of Bella. She's the only actress, I think, that can really pull of the role. I've seen two of Kristen's movies and have read all three of Stephenie Meyer's books in the Twilight trilogy; I'm confident that Kristen will do the character justice. I can't wait to see her on-screen with Rob Pattinson and the rest of the cast. (As for you questioning whether or not she can pull it off - there's no animosity here. You're entitled to your opinion.)
But, I would like to point out that just because Kristen isn't out getting drunk in public and caught up in outrageous Hollywood scandals doesn't mean that she's boring (as your last comment seems to imply). But, who knows. I could be wrong. And if I am, and she is, in fact, "boring", then I'd rather she be like that than shaving her head and flashing the paparazzi.

To be fair, it seems to me that he's saying that her performances are boring, not that she's boring. He didn't say anything about Kristen's personality or off-set behavior.

As a faithful reader and fan, I've tried to watch as much of Kristen's work as possible. I will admit, at first (All I had seen at the time was "Panic Room" and "In the Land of Women") I was very nervous about her. "Panic Room" was great for her but LoW I was less thrilled about. But after watching it three times, I don't think it's her acting, but the script itself. I've always liked everything else Meg Ryan was in and Adam Brody but that movie didn't do any of the actors in it justice. After watching Kristen's "Speak" and "The Messenger" (And a few lesser known movies) you see her playing even more diverse roles. She's played everything from the emotionally to physically weakened characters and dramatic to comedic. She's a brilliant character actress if you ask me. She plays a lot of disturbed characters because she's GOOD at it. I mean, come on, can you actually see her playing roles like Elizabeth Swan in Pirates? Or Mary Jane in "Spider Man"? (At least at the moment?)
Bella Swan isn't exactly disturbed or broken, but she's defiantly not your everyday girl. She picks up on things that most humans don't. She hangs out with two different mythological creatures. And, she's not very social. I think Kristen will, and is, doing great with role. I'd be more worried if we ended up with a ditzy and cute actress.

i think kristen is an amazing actress. she's the best of her age group and she'll be fantastic as Bella. kristen can say more with one look or gesture in one scene then most actresses her age could dream of. so what if she comes off shy or serious.. to me, that's the way i see bella swan, therefore kristen will do a great job. i saw her a few years ago in the movie speak, which many younger twilight fans recognise her from, with that movie she doesn't really speak all that much (obviously), but she definetely get's her emotions and story across to the viewer, she was awesome in that role and she was only around 13 or 14, i think? again, her movie the messengers, while the storyline was not very original.. what she did, once again was fantastic, she can be serious, she can be fun and she can be that young girl who seems lost all within 5 minutes. my opinion is, theres big things to come for kristen stewart, shes got a very bright career infront of her! people need to realise that just because a young actress isn't whoring herself out to the media or getting photos taken everyday as she goes for coffee, does not mean they are boring and moody. why would people take her serisouly if she shaved her head or posed half naked on magazines? the girl seems to love her job, so why not support her and keep focused on the work she does and not the lack of scandals she brings. if she chooses serious roles, good for her, she does wonderfully in them. she's definetely not the type of girl you could see dancing around in a high school musical type role or some bubblegum hilary duff type story, she obviously likes a challenge and good for her!

I think Kristen is perfect for Bella...I agree with Robert Pattinson: she is the best actress of her generation. I've seen all of her movies that have been released to DVD. She has really made Bella real and more interesting than she was in the book. Bella is one of my favorite characters so I'm really excited to see Kristen step into the role.

Having read all the Twilight series books several times I believe Kristen Stewart is PERFECT for the role as Bella. You saying Kristen is boring is purely subjective and your own ill-found opinion. Don't know where you've gotten your facts or observations to make such a decision or skewed view. I haven't seen many films Kristen has been in but of the ones I have, she has illustrated her amazing talent as an actress. As an actress she is able to portray a wide array of characters...it's only coincidence that you find all her roles to be 'disturbed'. As you've said you haven't read the books, which is sad within itself since they are BRILLIANT and AMAZINGLY written, so you wouldn't know Bella as a character and how Kristen will be able to portray her so brilliantly. Maybe this role will change your mind about Kristen as an actress because Bella is not a completely 'disturbed' or 'emotional issue...kind of gal'.
Have you not seen any of the behind-the-scene footage or teaser trailer? It's Kind of aggravating that you were the 'lucky guy' to get stuck writing this, lets hope the usual writer gets back soon.
Any way, nobody should judge until they have seen the movie and read the books. Nobody likes an ignorant person talking, making judgments, and spewing their opinions when they don't know what the hell they're talking about.

I'm not being mean to Kristen whatsoever -- I don't know her and I'm sure she's a nice enough gal. But I've seen four performances from her that were completely boring and completely the same. To be fair, I haven't seen her in older stuff, when she was a younger girl -- but since this is a film about teenagers, we should judge her on her teen-like films.
Like I said, she just doesn't do it for me as an actress. I hope she proves me wrong here, and doesn't spend every scene staring off into the distance, looking all troubled and whatnot.

You HAVE to be joking.
Kristen Stewart is a wonderful actress who has been working for several years. For you to assert that she always plays "disturbed" roles is completely untrue. She was in "Catch That Kid" and "Zathura," two very childish, fluffy movies in my opinion. Actually, "Catch That Kid" was the first thing I saw her in, and I absolutely adored her.
I've seen quite a few of her movies, and she is without a doubt my favorite actress. Her portrayal of Melinda in "Speak" was brilliant, and I loved her in "In the Land of Women." The beauty of Kristen is that she DOESN'T feel the need to act. She never says, "Okay. I'm doing a movie, and now I'm going to do this really emotional scene." It's all about her becoming the character, becoming real. Her acting is so true to real life. I am absolutely elated that she's playing Bella. NO ONE could have done it better. How on earth can you say she has no emotion? Have you seen "Speak"? The fear and hurt that Kristen portrays is breathtaking. You almost want to turn away from her intensity.
Acting is not about emotional angsty monologues, which are the only things most movie critics seem to recognize. That's not talent. What Kristen Stewart does... THAT is talent. THAT is acting.

I'm thrilled that Kristen Stewart is playing Bella Swan in Twilight; she's the perfect person for the role. And this based from reading all three of the amazingly written books, more than once. It's sad that reporters are writing about subjects they have not properly researched or know about.
Your opinion that Kristen is 'boring' is based off of what? The roles she picks to play or her personality? Because she's not running with the young screwed up Hollywood crowd, she's boring? Kristen is a talented actress, portraying more in one look or action than a majority of actresses can do with their words. She picks her roles well and is brilliant in each. Just because some roles she has played have depth and meaning to them doesn't mean she only plays 'disturbed' roles or characters.

Kristen Stewart, in my opinion, absolutely radiates pure talent and is the absolute perfect Bella.
I've seen all /but/ 2 or 3 of her movies, and each of her roles have impressed me in some way. "Speak" has become one of my all-time favorite movies, because she plays the part so realistically and so well that it was... wow. She says so much with every inch of her self, its hard not to be impressed. "Fierce People" absolutely captivated me, and her part was outside the 'norm' that people usually associate her with. In "Zathura" her character was hilariously exaggerated and over the top. She brings roles to LIFE, and has since she started acting.
Bella, if you had read the books, is not a bubbly person. She's a rather mellow person, sometimes down on herself, and fairly "boring" in many peoples eyes, yes. That isn't out of the ordinary when it comes to the characters Kristen plays, actually it's pretty much the norm. But, I promise you she WILL breathe life in to Bella. I can feel it, almost guarantee it.
She's amazing. THE perfect Bella. Do a bit of research next time.

I LOVE her for Bella. I saw her in "The Land of Women" and she was very Bella-esque in that. She's very pretty, yet can look like she's not completely comfortable in her skin yet, and she has a great mixture of moxy and vulenerability on screen. Just like Bella!

No, I don't think Kristen is right for Bella, because I think Kristen is too headstrong for the part. Bella is supposed to be shy, and she isn't as forthcoming...?? That's the best that I can word it..
But, mostly, I don't think anyone could really be Bella, because I don't think that there really is anyone out there that can live up to her character...and same with a lot of the other characters also...

I think Kristen will do a fantastic job as Bella. When I first heard that she was cast, I was skeptical myself for various reasons, some the same reasons as yours. But I started watching her movies and my perspective completely changed. Kristen is a great actress who really knows how to connect with the characters she plays - she delves into them and really understands them. I trust that Kristen knows who Bella is, understands her, and can tap into her mind.
Rob was telling the truth when he said she is the best actress of her generation. It's pretty much solid that she can play the angst-ridden characters really well but when you watch her in Zathura, it's a completely different setting from those usual movies. Her role is minor but she's really cute and funny in the movie, and she perfectly plays a normal teenage girl with two annoying little brothers. She is definitely a diverse actress; she can play any role. She just chooses characters she likes, not characters she can only play. Kristen has the ability to play any role.
I KNOW she will be a great Bella and she definitely won't let the fans down! If she can turn me into a believer, trust me, I think she can do it anyone. So have some faith! Because Kristen IS Bella :)
