Adam Brody on 'Justice League' Collapse
Filed under: Action, Celebrities and Controversy, Fandom, Comic/Superhero/Geek
I'm not sure if there are still people who still don't believe that Justice League: Mortal is dead, but here's another nail in the much-hammered coffin for you: Adam Brody talked to Empire, and it may interest you to know that even those on board were no more informed than you or I. I find it more funny than interesting -- scary, too, because directors and producers make way more money than I do, and should be much more organized.Apparently, none of the actors were ever officially let go or told anything, and Brody has no idea whether or not the film will ever be made. He says, "Actually, I probably shouldn't be commenting on it, but who cares. I don't really know – I still feel like an outsider on that somehow. I know there was a tax credit thing and I know that the strike was a hindrance. Also, you've got Batman coming out and Singer wants to do another Superman. This is only speculation on my part, I have no inside knowledge of this, but, as a fan, I think there's controversy about going off and trying to [show a different Superman and Batman] ... I think maybe it will still happen, but I truly don't know any more than you do".
You have to hand it to George Miller -- he inspires loyalty, which is nice. When asked if he would still be on board should the film climb out of development hell, Brody was quick to count himself in: "I'm a huge George Miller fan and a huge comic fan, so I'd still be in. But maybe I won't be. I know that Ryan Reynolds was attached to The Flash for a while and then I got the part and everyone on the internet was like, 'Oh, he's no Ryan Reynolds! Reynolds is the only Flash!' I hope that if they do it in a year or so and it's a different guy and the new guy gets shit for not being me. Like, I become the only conceivable Flash." Oh, our fickle Internet. He's totally right.
So, there you have it -- again. And now you know Brody is reading, so tell him what you think of him ever playing the Flash. Or Spider-Man, because he offered himself up for consideration should there be a Tobey Maguire-less fourth.

Flash, sure! I think he'd actually make a decent Flash. but i hope it's not in THIS justice league movie.
Spidey, man I dunno. Brody's somewhat nerdy persona fits the bill but a Spidey re-cast at this stage seems a little scary. Still...Spidey 3 was one of my least favorite movies of all time so maybe some serious changes are warranted. I'd almost rather they leave Spidey be for a few years (like 5 or 10) and then come back to him.
Either way...DIE JUSTICE LEAGUE DIE.

I'm a little confused by something. I was never really into comic books growing up, but I'm a pretty huge fan of comic book movies, and I've noticed something that seems a little odd. Why is it that the Justice League Movie is constantly vilified by fans and bloggers online but the excitement for the Avengers Movie is through the roof? To me they both look like teams of the greatest super heroes working together, so I would have thought that they each could have been awesome, but maybe I'm missing something. I assume some people will say its because of how the casting and everything went, but to me the backlash seems as though it has existed ever since they first announced plans of a JLA movie. What gives?

I think part of what's going on with the Avengers movie is that it appears that Marvel Entertainment is very organized with it, and they're releasing solo movies with all the characters first, but with plans in mind to bring them all together.
Justice League, on the other hand, as planned, was going to feature a bunch of characters that would have to be established for non-comics fans, since they wouldn't have already been in movies of their own. In addition, those characters that had appeared in their own movies were going to be played by different actors with presumably different interpretations in JL than in the solo films.

An excellent synopsis, CPav. This is exactly why i said "die Justice league die" heheh. An exaggeration of course. If they did it the right way I'd be all for it (as I am an Avengers movie), but as you said Marvel is setting up the Avengers movie in steps. DC's JL movie seems to be an out of the blue cash-grab attempt with scab actors and second string heroes. That sounds harsh and i'd LOVE to be wrong...but i don't think i am, unfortunately.

Dang, you guys are fast!
Anyway, Kevin...what they said. :D I hadn't noticed any backlash until the various names were attached, and fans just seemed to get more and more angry.
If there had been one bit of good news, even from the start, the tide probably would have shifted. The Internet is fickle that way.

Kevin: Let me break down what the thoughts of these derailers are:
1) A Justice League should not be done, because it's impossible, too many characters, yadda yadda. Wich they might as well have said of LoTR.
2)The cast is too young, bla bla, "What is this, the O.C.?" I don't know this guy, so I know he sucks etc. Wich they might as well have said of the first X-Men.
3) This movie is rushed, bla bla, make the same thing as Marvel, or do nothing, you is gonna ruin Justice League...etc.
I agree with you that Avengers has some of the same potential problems a Justice League movie has. How are they gonna explain a Magic based Thundergod "hanging" with a Selfmade armored millionaire, a wife beating jerk that talks to ants, and a Green, out of control Beast and a WW2 supersoldier?. And no, 5 seconds of Samuel L Jackson with an eyepatch is NOT an explanation. Even if all the movies tie to each other, they still have to have the characters talk about their origins to each other or something, because the audience isn't nessesarilly gonna suspend their disbelief if they havn't seen ALL the movies, Say, if you miss Antman, will the movie make no sense?
The truth is, I never understood the grief Justice Leage gets. But, hey, I'm not a movie proffesional like most folks in the internet, so what do I know?

I predict Warner Bros. is holding off on a Justice League movie until after Chris Nolan does a third Batman movie. Then WB can "reboot" Batman for a JL movie, which will probably feature another actor in the role.
As far as another Superman movie goes: I'm going to say that WB will keep delaying it, simply because there is not much enthusiasm by either them and the movie-going public for another one right now, especially in the form of a sequel to Superman Returns. They will probably hold off on the character until the time is right to do a Justice League movie (after Nolan finishes a Batman trilogy under his direction/vision).

Interesting arguments. Thanks guys. Hopefully WB will get their act together, get a decent screenwriter and director so that good actors will be clamoring to sign onto this thing. The one nice thing about a JLA movie would be that with so many different superhero's to integrate into the film there wouldn't be time to explore supermans emo side, and instead he could spend most of the movie just kicking ass. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that eventually someone will get their act together and put this thing together the way it should be and we'll end up seeing an awesome movie. Until then I can get my hopes up for the Avengers because that at least sounds like its being done the right way.

i heard that Thor is getting his own movie in the next year or so (a late 2009/2010 release date) and that Captain America was also in there as a solo release. we've also got TWO Fantastic Four movies, THREE X-Men movies, THREE Spiderman movies and TWO Hulk movies. i know the Avengers ppl from and cameos by them and other characters in the Marvel Universe(s), so they ARE covering their bases here to set up the Avengers movie. my husband damn near had a cow when "Mother fucking Nick Fury" showed up. so i think Marvel has this whole thing under control. the problem i see with the Justice League is the same everyone else sees: too many ppl with no established story lines of their own. sure, we could all watch the cartoon versions on WB and Boomerang and play catch up, but what if that doesn't sit well with the director/producers? we need them to kick out the other Batman and Superman movies as well as add some other ppl from JL and get some storylines and characters established before they make one massive Justice League movie. and for the record, i'm a Marvel girl. if *I'M* saying it, then they might want to listen up!
