Ask 'Get Smart' Stars Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway a Question
Filed under: Fandom, Interviews, Unscripted
That looks to change with the release (on June 20) of perhaps the biggest comedy of the summer: Get Smart, the big-screen adaptation of the wonderfully goofy '60s spy sitcom of the same name, which inspired kids everywhere to believe that they, too, could become secret agents -- even if they were bumbling morons.
Not only is Carell an inspired casting choice -- he even looks like Don Adams, the original Maxwell Smart -- but he's been paired with Anne Hathaway as Agent 99, in the role that's going to leave her Princess Diaries days in the dust and catapult her to bonafide sexpot status.
We've been lucky enough to score both Carell and Hathaway for an exclusive Moviefone Unscripted interview, in which they'll grill each other using your questions. So let 'er rip, Chief -- ask Carell and Hathaway whatever your heart desires by this Friday, then head back here on June 16 to see if your question made the cut. Please don't forget to include your first name and the city and state where you live. Good luck!

my question is:
"As film artists, How do you handle the fame that goes with this career? can you still have a normal life? do you like it?"

Steve: Are your fingers really as large as your nostrils?
Anne: I'm looking forward to seeing your preformance in this film. How did you approach the roll of Agent 99 knowing you'd be measured against the memories of millions of boys who fantasized about Barbara Feldon's...
So how's the press tour treating you?

Was it love at first sight pretty much when ya first met your wife Nancy? fyi: you're the perfect for maxwell smart. you a close spitting image of Don Adams...i think.
Anne:
I read about you being in a High School honors chorus, & that you were up for the role of Christine in the film adaptation of 'Phantom of the Opera'. Is there any particular musical that you wish would adaptated into a film, & that you'd love to be a part of?

Steve: In one of your last Daily Show interviews Jon mentioned writing a Produce Pete movie. Would you ever write/star in a semi-fake biopic of yourself chronicling your rise to fame? It could show you being a postal worker, produce manager, being in Second City, vomiting in Colbert's car, courting your wife, working at the Daily Show, auditioning for sitcoms and cap it off with you accepting the Emmy for Ricky Gervais. Add the usual struggles one finds in a biopic.

You seem to be a very down to earth guy and are able to balance your family and career, which is very refreshing to see. Does your family travel with you when you are away working and if not, how do you handle not seeing them for such long periods of time.

Since you mentioned his track record at the box office, I guess this is fair game.
Mr. Carell,
Considering your Officemates lack of success on the big screen (from Jenna Fischer in Slither and Walk Hard, to Krasinsky in Leatherheads, License to Wed, and Jarhead, to Rainn Wilson's Last Mimsy and My Super Ex-Girlfriend), any chance of The Office: The Movie to help bolster your collective careers?

For Anne:
1. What is the funniest thing Steve said or did on set?
2. What was more challenging during filming: keeping a straight face while Steve said a funny line or keeping a straight face while he performed a funny stunt?
3. Of all the characters you have played, who do you think would most likely survive a week at Dunder Mifflin's Scranton?
For either Anne or Steve:
1. What is the smartest decision you have ever made in your life?
2. Who is the smartest person you know?
3. If you could have any person - whether fictional or non-fictional - as your partner in saving the world, who would you choose?
4. If you could be a real-life secret agent, what name or alias would you give yourself?

Anne,
How did you prepare for the part of Agent 99? Did you get any help from the original Agent 99, Barbara Feldon?

Dear Steve Carrel:
As a relatively new actor (I have been acting for about a year and a half, but have read many books, gone to many classes, and have done some small independent film work) I always am curious to ask fellow actors (let alone someone as funny and likeable as you) how they approach a role. So, my question (if mine is lucky enough to be selected) is how you prepared, get into character for Get Smart. (Which by the way is the first movie my grandpa has wanted to see for at-least the last 6 years or more, I plan to go see it with him, and with my friends a few more times)
Dear Ann Hathaway,
My question for you, (can’t believe I might end up asking you a question!), is how were you able to balance acting(which is a huge time investment, as well as an emotional investment since it’s a burning desire I believe actors have), with school, work, social events, basically everything else in life? Second, is this balance extremely hard or am I just not well organized?
Thank you to both of you for answering these questions!
PS. To Steve:
The funniest scene I have ever seen in a movie was in Bruce Almighty when you were reading the news and Jim Carrey was controlling you words and actions. (I thought the deleted fire scene with the bloody nose was up there too)
P.S. To Ann Hathaway,
I really want to continue acting, and I will despite the level I get to, but being in larger movies and seeing your-self on screen is obviously a result I would love. How much has your fame affected your daily life in ways you wish it had not?
Thanks for reading my post script,
Corbin
