John Cusack Joins Roland Emmerich's '2012'

Well it looks like Roland Emmerich has opted to go back to a few more familiar faces for his next monster, effects-laced epic. Variety tells us John Cusack has signed to star in 2012 for Columbia Pictures, with Redbelt's Chiwetel Ejiofor in negotiations to co-star. Emmerich and Harold Kloser wrote the screenplay for this apocalyptic tale which follows an academic researcher (Cusack) who "opens a portal into a parallel universe and makes contact with his double in order to prevent an apocalypse predicted by the ancient Mayans." WTF? Really? Sounds to me like a pretty ridiculous premise, but it's a Roland Emmerich film -- so as long as he blows up New York City halfway through, we're all good.I am interested to see how they're going to make this whole "contacting yourself in an alternate universe" thing work. Do you look exactly the same? Like, in an alternate universe, would I look like myself or actually be skinny and good looking? I need to know these rules now before 2012 heads into production this July (barring a SAG strike, of course). And how do you find yourself in an alternate universe? Instead of Google, would there be Boogle? My mind is blown! [Holds fist in air] Emmerich!

If you want to see how it works to contact yourself in an alternate universe, I would be happy to suggest episodes of Star Trek TNG and DS9 and Stargate SG-1 where the characters come into contact with their alternate universe doubles.....
Either way, this premise looks fun and something a little different from John Cusack.

I dunno, I'm very wary of this idea despite being a diehard Cusack fan. This reminds me of 'The Sixth Day' or 'Imposter' where they have to talk to trackdown their double to save the world. Sounds good at first, but usually the execution doesn't match up.

Yes Emmerich's films get a lot of flack...but why the hate...shouldn't we be encouraging film-makers to be original and take risks in their work...I don't think he deserves a fist held up in frustration but rather a....a high five or something.

if you´d really like to know what you look like in an alternate dimension, you should come down to Peru and drink ayahuasca with the curanderos of the Amazon. Then, you will begin to understand the Mayan calendar a lot more. It´s a new day, a new dawn, the dawn of fourth dimensional beings.
I thought Sony picked up 2012, not Colombia.
Will the illuminati´s plan to decrease the population by 5 billion be covered in this film, as it seems to play into the 2012 event. Will there be Pleiadians fighting with the reptilian Orions to ensure the planet reconnects with the Real Time of the Universe?
And the 2nd coming of the Lord of Time, who is now living near lake Titicacca in Peru? There are so many details that will be left out so that the hero can save the day.
Let´s face it. Only you can save yourself, by advancing spiritually so that when the Galactic sun at the center of the Andromodus Galaxy, around which the milky way revolves, sends out the charge (which is already heating up the sun and causing global warming on all the planets, contrary to what the elitist, tax generating, Al Gore movement tells us) that will knock out all of our electricity, leaving only the primitive to survive, then the meak shall truly inherit the earth, and the spiritually advanced will leave this dimension and exist in another.
So, get down to peru to practice your survival skills, and drink ayahuasca to understand the spiritual dimension, where the directors of the 2012 event reside. See your spirit and know that this life is a dream...
ayahuasca.
